in case the answer is no, its when hosta leaves curl into the shape of a bowl due to different growth rates between the fast growing inner portion of the leaf and the slow growing outer portion. sometimes its so bad the leaf will split and tear due to such a tight curl. my question is: what can be done about it? or is there anything that can be done to prevent it in the first place? we have 71 hostas in our yard and it appears the "Patriot" and "Minuteman" varieties get it worse than all others. perhaps because of the stark contrast between the dark green centers and the bright white edges...? I really don't know, but its driving me nuts! thoughts?

I think you already have the suggested solutions from the other forum: I will re-state them here just in case someone has not seen that. Cut the first crop of leaves off, and wait till the plants have leafed out to fertilize them, and avoid the varieties that tend to have the problem.
Here is a list of the ones know to suffer from the drawstring effect.

Patriot and Minuteman grow nicely here. They are favorites. I've bought attractive plants of Brim Cup over the years and it has never been satisfactory, in my garden or in a friends garden. I've learned my lesson. Why waste time on ones with problems when there are so many nice one.....
