A little plant left by our tenants when they moved out. Leaves are slightly pubescent, purple in color on reverse side.

I'd lean toward T. cerinthoides. Haven't noticed pink stems on T. sillamontana.

Thanks Tiffany! After looking at all those listed in our database as well as hundreds of pictures on line, that's the closest match I've found too.

No reason it shouldn't bloom soon under your expert care & satisfy "our" curiosity!

It sure is hairy though. I've not left any cerinthoides outside for winter. Now I want to, to see what the spring growth looks like. If it's been in significant sun exposure, that could account for the hair & pink stems. I've only tried this in pretty shady spots, & inside for winter since I got a few yrs ago.

There is some T. sillamontana coming out of the ground from last year, but also in a shady spot. It's so hairy that it looks white, and is green underneath the hair on the top of the leaves. If it *EVER* stops raining, I've been curious what color the bottom of the leaves are at this point too... will try to get a pic Tues or Wed if not sooner, assuming we haven't been washed away...

Edit:
Added a couple pics of T. sillamontana coming up outside today. No sign of pink on the stems, or purple on the leaf bottoms at all.

@purpleinopp Tiffany, forgive me, I don't know how I lost this thread ... and it's even my own thread! *Blush*

I kinda forgot about this plant but was out cleaning the porch and side deck today and noticed it's beginning to grow and spread a bit and a couple of stems are forming flower buds ... at least I think they are flower buds!

I've read about and looked at so many Tradescantia photos and the closest I can find is T. cerinthoides too so I think I'll upload my photos to that database entry and move them if someone feels it's an incorrect ID.

Thanks so much for your knowledge and assistance!

Lin

I think so too, both the ID and that it has buds! You're going to love the flowers! Looks great, what an awesome recovery & TY for the update. :+) Look forward to a bloom pic soon.

Found this looking for another discussion, but glad I did. Reminded about forgotten curiosity. LOL! Did this plant end up opening up some flowers for you?

Tiffany, LOL I forgot all about this thread. Nope, never did see flowers! To my eyes, it sure looked like little buds forming in the middle photo but if that plant bloomed, I must missed it! Now it seems that something is chewing at the leaves of this plant, not sure what though. I have found a couple of little snails on the deck lately and even saw one on the screened porch yesterday. There's a man made waterway behind the house so there are lots of snails that the shore birds keep under control for the most part, thank goodness!

Sounds like a lot of action, even w/o a bloom, LOL! TY for the update. Looked like buds to me too. Morning would be the best time to check, if it comes to mind later.
