My hosta has two leaves that are coming out puckered looking, is this normal?

It is in my garden. I just cut misformed leaves off because they detract from the beauty of the plant.

Oh, ok, so there is nothing wrong with the plant then? I thought like a fungus or something weird deforming them? I don't need to be alarmed?

I wouldn't worry about it....could be a little frost damage or something else that inhibited the natural growth pattern.

Hmmm, could be frost damage, but it could also be Hosta Virus X. And I lean more towards the HVX. The American Hosta Society has information on Hosta Virus X if you are interested in looking. But above all, practice good sanitary practices and clean your tools between plants, so that if you do happen to have a hosta with HVX you won't unintentionally spread it to your other hosta.

I think it is frost damage.......I see it ever year. I have seen it in several of the early emerging plants in various parts of the garden. I cut off the affected leaves and the plant looks good all summer. A friend has 200+ hostas in his garden and I've seen the same thing in his plantings. He attributes it to frost damage. If it is HVX we are at the beginning of an epidemic in our hostas.......

Well this is a hosta I have had for several years, we have had an early spring this year and rain almost every day for a couple weeks. So I am hoping it is the weather.

Frilly, Paul is correct. I asked one of my Hosta Guru's and they didn't think it was HVX. Do you have that hostas name?

I don't know the name of it. I noticed two others that look like this too. But the rest of the plant looks fine. I'm cutting off the weird looking leaves and see what happens.

We had a very cold night a few weeks ago after a long period of mild weather.........I can still see the problems with my emerging rose foliage, several mature hostas, and distorted bloom on some my iris.

The thought of HVX also occurred to me, but the other leaves look fine and usually HVX isn't limited to just one or two leaves. Still, I'd keep an eye on it and of course, you already clean your tools well between plants anyway - right?

OK just FYI this was 2 years ago and that hosta is doing fine, no problems whatsoever, so must have been the cold spring.

NOW I currently have another that looks strange, wondering what you think? I have this hosta for probably 10 years with no problems.

Then today I noticed this Confused I always monitor my plants and take lots of pics, if it had EVER looked like this at any time in the past I would have noticed.

I'd get rid of that one... I would bet money that one is infected. The one that I found last year I cut all of the foliage off, then used round up on the base of the plant. It was planted close to other hosta, and I didn't want to cut through the roots and infect other plants.
When all is said and done, there’s more said than done.

I guess what I can't figure out is why I've had it for 10 years and it just now decides to do this? Plus it looked great a week ago when and it leafed out normally ect. so strange. Confused
