We were invited to visit Sue's garden while we were in the Sebastopol/ Santa Rosa area.
What can I say - It was inspiring. I hope these photos convey the lushness, the beauty of Sue's garden. "The soil is fertile
here" she said. I believe it. She is the sole gardener, with building help from her husband. She
also told my husband, Chris (seen in the photos with Sue) and I, that she learned to love gardening as a child,
at her mother's side.
I was wishing I'd brought a notebook. She knew the names of all the plants and shared her love of them.
Speaking of sharing, we went home, happily, with a boxful of SDB's that she'd divided.

I've got many of the same plants here, but would never dare to try a banana again.. I had the same one in Los Altos, and it was marginal there.. I'm not sure that we get much colder here, but it seems to affect tender plants worse. I was figuring it might have to do with both moisture in the air (more), and less hours of sun being in a canyon.. but I love Sonoma County, and it looks like you found a beautiful spot that has only been enhanced by your skills in the garden.
The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that it has never tried to contact us.
The cold takes it down every winter, I have to cut off the mushy leaves but it always comes back. I need to repot it this winter, split the two, maybe try one in the ground.
Sue obviously has more energy than I do !!!
