Hi folks! In case you haven't noticed, we have a relatively new feature on ATP. It's the gardening calender of events. To find it, go to the menu on the left and click "Goodies", then click "Gardening Calender of Events". Or just click here: http://garden.org/apps/events/

Now, we all know Florida has tons of plant shows and sales so I want to see everyone adding to this. I just added two daylily things, a rose show, and a hibiscus show and sale. And I don't even grow any of those plants! But some of our members do and we want them to know about it. Also, we want tourist dollars!

I know some of you, like me, belong to a botanical garden. Or maybe you belong to a club that holds shows or sales. Maybe you just get the paper like I do and you can copy stuff out of the gardening events thing they have in the home section each week. All of these things are useful to adding to the calendar.

Also, I just want to say that plant shows and sales are so much fun to attend. You can usually find some rare and uncommon stuff. And if it's a club hosting the sale you can often find some real deals. And don't forget to take pictures of everything because you can add them to the Plant Database and earn acorns! Everybody wins! So please keep us, and yourself, in the loop by adding to the new calender of events. And if you can think of way to improve upon it, drop by our thread in the Site Talk forum: The thread "Introducing the local Calendar of Events!" in Site Talk forum

Thank you! I have just added the Plumeria Festival that is taking place this weekend in Homestead.

See, I didn't know we had a Plumeria Festival! That's awesome! I added the Redland Orchid Festival since I typed the first post and I'm waiting for more info from the Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce so I can add the Caladium Festival. We Floridians sure are spoiled, aren't we? Sticking tongue out

I think this is a great idea and it's nice that we have a spot to put this information in. We need to get the word out to the members.

Yeah, I know there's the thread over in the Site Talk forum but a lot of people don't go there so I've been trying to spread the word around the various forums I hang out in. And I know @Dave is still adding features to it and making it better as the members add their input. But it would be nice to see an article or some kind of announcement on the main page. Maybe there was one and I missed it?

I think it's especially great for people who are very into particular types of plants, like many members are. I don't know if many Caladium devotees even know we have an annual festival in Lake Placid. So I put the info up, and they can see it. If they can't make it this year, maybe they can make a plan for next year. Also, I know a I read lot of complaints about buying plants from the big box stores here on the website and these plant shows and sales are a great alternative where you can find plants that none of your neighbors have. Hilarious!

I love this idea. Saw your link for the Plumeria Festival and got super-excited, and then saw that it already happened 2 weeks ago :p

Next year for sure! And I will keep checking back to find more events Smiling

Arielle, if you go directly to the Calender, it removes events once they have happened so you won't have that happen again: http://garden.org/apps/events/ But yes, plan for next year! Some of the annual events I've been talking up I keep telling people to plan for next year if they can't make it this year. We have a lot of really big events that are often multi-day events. Sounds like a perfect reason for a Florida vacation!
