Garlic, Part I

By drdawg
May 4, 2015

I have grown heirloom, gourmet garlic for several years, and over that time have learned some of its history, some of the myths/misconceptions associated with it, and what garlic grows where. In a second article I will discuss some aspects of the particular varieties, how to grow it, and how to store it.

I love reading about the history of uses of plants and garlic seems to have had many uses over thousands of years. Love the connection between garlic and vampires!

It is said that garlic was found in King Tutankhamen’s tomb because the Egyptians believed in its healing powers. I guess they would need this in the afterlife, lol!

I have never grown garlic, but love it almost as much as I do onions.

Very cool article, Ken Thumbs up Can't wait for Part II!

Great Article Ken. Some of it I knew (I mean, who doesn't know about vampires and garlic Hilarious! ) but a lot of it was new to me. Especially which garlic were from where. I have new little green sprouts every day. It will very hard to wait to see 'what lies beneath' - one large toe or an entire clump? I also am awaiting Part 2. Thanks so much for taking the time to write these.

I tip my hat to you. Thank you for the kind words, Mary. I chuckle when I see someone call a clove a "toe"! Hilarious!
