Snow has been falling for the last hour!
Good moisture for the seeds which were sowed yesterday.
They were wildflower seeds.

Holy cow Caroline. Please keep all the snow for yourself. I have finally gotten brave enough to put my bean seedlings out. Pretty early for us and not because it is terribly warm either. I just don't think I can keep them alive in the garage for three more weeks. I also planted potatoes and spinach but I am not worried about them. I have row covers over the hoop houses so frost shouldn't hurt them (the beans) unless it gets into the 20's again.

27F Here with snow on the ground Friday morning, with snow expected tonight and possibly for the next couple of days. EEEWWW!!!

Had to move the annual plants back in that I had taken out to harden off.

That is a nuisance to have to move the plants in and out.
I only have perennials out, but need to start moving some of the annuals out.
Maybe next week----this week may be too early.

We should be able to leave them out all night by the weekend. Night time temperatures are forecast to be 6C.

Good! I really need to get some outside.

Ugh! How much snow did you end up getting?

It feels like the return of winter here today, too; blustery winds and cool, although yesterday I was melting away in dead-still air, heat and humidity. I'll be erecting some sort of frost shelter over the new lily bed today...just in case. It's hard to tell from this angle, Sue, but the tallest ones are up 24" already!


A couple of the ones in front have a bit of frost damage already...from a couple of weeks ago.

Our ten day forcast is for 60's daytime and 40's at night. Oh how I wish it would hold and improve from here on out. Mid 60's is our average daytime anyway. I am not unpleased with how my hoop beds are doing but they need a steady warmth to really take off. My most successful plant is the bok choy. Really dark green and robust. Sigh. And my husband doesn't like cabbage. Well, he likes raw cabbage and I figured I could use it in stirfry. Bean plants that went in two days ago are holding well. New lettuce is sprouting, as well as sweet onions. Planted spinach a day or so ago. If I could just get the stuff out of the garage and into the ground where it could let Mother Nature care for it NOT ME. arghhhh

My lack of success with six paks has made me decide to finally do as is recommended and wash the pots, all of them, in a bleach mixture to kill any bacteria or fungus or whatever that might be going from year to year on the pots.

It dipped below freezing here last night.
The fuschias look a little the worse for wear.

I just received mine today, and they're definitely coming indoors for the night.

In the 70's here. Wonderful. I gardened all day. Planted some kale, pitched some onions (sweet) that I started indoors. Won't do that again. It is better to just plant outside. I have carrots that germinated and lettuce. I planted spinach a day or so ago so watching that. Slowly being converted to vegies from flowers. At least from dahlias. They take too much care and cost. I will always try to get a few through winter in the basement, but no more 160 tubers. NO Way! I would rather devote the electricity for the grow lights to vegies and annuals. I am simply too tired to deal with all the angst of dahlias anymore.

This is a strange weather pattern-it is warmer north of here.
The only veges, that I have started, are peas and broad beans.
I am behind on everything this year.
I did get some dahlia tubers,but will just dig them in the ground, or into containers,
......and hope for the best.

It's been erratic here too Caroline and I'm behind too.


Cool and damp here. We've been raining off and on for several days. I got my peas, carrot, potatoes and some of the sunflowers planted before it started rainy so am hoping they'll take off. It's suppose to be relatively nice tomorrow but Sat. and Sunday - cold and wet again. They are predicting frost again for Sunday night but then I think it is suppose to warm up some.

Lot's of spring flowers blooming but my Mom has been sick and staying here and with that and the rain I still haven't gotten a couple of flowerbeds completely cleaned up. My foot is still sore enough if I'm on it to much, so things are going pretty slow. Hopefully it will get a little better soon!

Glad to hear that you're able to get out in the gardens, Sue. Hope your foot continues to get better every day, and that your mom feels better soon.

I took the precautionary frost covers off today. We're supposed to get rain tonight, and most everything looks like it could use it.

I am keeping the row covers over the hoop beds. I hope should we get a frost they will protect my growing vegies. Put more beans seedlings out today and planted more seeds. I will be curious how the seeds do. They are the same seeds that I planted in the garage weeks ago.

Thanks Chelle, Mom was feeling well enough today to try to go home and see how it goes.

I was thankful for the rain and sometimes snow as we really needed it too. We have been in a drought since last summer and not much snow last winter. There have already been some fires and the fire danger in this area has been very high. The two inches we got is helpful but we are still way behind in our ground water levels. .

No snow here recently (thankfully) but it sure isn't warming up very darn fast... highs are barely making 60F, lows are in the 30s and 40s (F). Monday and Tuesday are supposed to go down near freezing... I'm hopeful that will be the end of the freezing, but I sure hope this isn't going to be another cold summer like last year; but at least I got some peas planted this year to take advantage of the extra-cool weather

I sowed peas and broad beans as cool weather crops.
Need to get some others sowed as well.

I am going for it and putting out my flowers: dahlias, marigolds, nasturtiums, etc. We are having 60's during the day and 40's at night. 10 day forecast is the same. So nothing to be gained by waiting til June 1. Will be so glad to hand them off to Mother Nature.

That is great that you can do that!
It is always a job to keep them in the house when they should be hardening off.
