I know Mammoral day, the 25th of may, is the day when you plant things like peppers or tomatos? I did it early this year because of events that are going on this mammoral day we are all- my house/group home- is going on a camping trip/barbacu that weekend.. but what about bringing out frost tender tropical's to enjoy summer?. i heard temps are going all over this year so I want to be safe.

Memorial Day?
It really depends on where you live, which climate zone and all that. To use Memorial Day as a 'safe-to-plant' date only works for some people.
There is a planting calendar on ATP where you can plug in your location and it'll tell you when to plant many types of veg. Look for 'Goodies' on the left side of the screen and find the planting calendar.

Oh, for Memorial Day I usually go to the cemetery with the American Legion that day and then we have a big picnic meal at the hall afterward.

I would check what your overnights are. I think it has to be stable 60F and upwards during daytime, to be safe.
But typically, I do not bring out my Dracaenas..they just stay indoors here in my area. It may be warm but my area is so dry, so it is easy for it to get heat stressed. It would be nice if we get better humidity. I don't grow your other plants.

So check your overnight temps and humidity levels.

Okay, all safe temps for days not not nights. Tommarow I start acclimating them to outside. then taking them in at night. We regularly have the house in the upper 60's should I get a heat pad for my voodoo lily? It seems to be growing a little but would like to speed things up

I am in the South and have very different weather than you do. Our Target Date for outdoor plantin is March 31 for our last frost/freeze. Still it is good to remember that is only a "target" as the weather, as we know is very unpredictable. Once we had a freeze on March 31st , the night of March 30th. I remember this because it was my birthday. I work up to my annuals looking really badly. We cut them back, the roots just kept growing and everything came back bigger and better than before.

I think of these specifically as target dates and take them very seriously. I mean, people with much more education than I do have put great thought in these things, right?

I remember those days when I was acclimating my plants. In. Out. In. Out. In. Out....it's a lot of work when you over-winter as many Tropical plants as I do. It's so worth it though as they will give back once they wake up and realize it is spring! Happy plants make happy people!

For your specific questions on specific plants, why not post your questions to the specific plant forum. Like your Voodoo Lily question might be seen by more members with that plant if posted in the Tropical Plants section? Just a thought.

Yes, I'm kidding. In my zone the last week of May is pretty much good for anything. I've sewn zinnia seed and planted tomatoes, cukes, zucchini, and peppers as late as the third week of June. Leaf lettuce, greens, herbs. Good returns on everything. I'd never use that as a guideline but I've seen it work , Memorial Day makes a pretty good calendar event .

I would be watching the night temperatures predicted for the next week or two before risking tender tropical plants outside. Days in the 60s would not be bad but a night or two dropping into the 40s will do serious damage.

I do know someone in Pennsylvania who had a night in the 30s just this week.

Okay I have been doing just that.... Yesterday I lugged all my plants inside before nightfall. they got rained on but other then that great. The ginger dropped a little but its doing great I will need to re pot it soon. . Good thing i'm not old otherwise my back would break moving all those heavy plants. i'm sure some weigh at least 30 lbs.
