When such an easy kind of plant has so many varieties that look so obviously different, I turn into a collector. Scrolling through the "view only genus" box in my plant list here, looking at the numbers next to the genus names, it's easy to see which genera I'm collecting.

Got my 8th Dracaena yesterday.
13 Crassulas, plus a few NOIDs.
I have more than 9 diff Begonias, but know enough about some to have 9 entries on my list.
7 Philo entries.
7 non-spiderwort Tradescantias.
Kalanchoe looks like it's winning at my house, 13 species/cultivars, a couple NOID's.

What's being collected at your house?

well so far I've collected children, but that's mostly because one husband is enough Rolling on the floor laughing

ok so far I have a begonia. I know that sounds small and insignificant. But while looking at photos to see what kind of begonia Mardi is ( yes I named him) I seen the beautiful foliage of all the other begonias and now I am afraid every time I go to the nursery that more will jump in my cart Whistling

Good topic purple. It started my brain churning.. My passion just seems to be plants that have pretty foliage.

I have several aloes about 8 They really started to get my attention when I saw the new ones that are pink and red and not your normal green with spots.

Sansevieria is another collection plant.

I do know the plants I have if there are others in its family I have at least two.

Hmm, well my collecting seems to come in twos. Two Aloes, two Sansevieria, two 'Arrowhead Vines,' and two 'ZZ Plants.' I'm sure I'd have more Sans and 'Arrowhead Vines' if I had the room! Hilarious!

LOL, I collect a little bit of everything; some types I might just have one of, while others I might have three or four of the same exact plant. Green Grin! I used to propagate via stems or leaves, which ended up with me having way too many plants! When we moved about four years ago I downsized my plant collection but I still have a lot of plants.

Hoya obovata is blooming now and at night the fragrance is really nice!

Hoya kerrii has only one bloom ........... Hoya cummingiana is also in bloom, another fragrant one:

Plantsmylove, that is funny you over water I under water. That is why I love succulents. When they are in for the winter they may get a sip once all winter and they come out looking so good. I love that.

Many years ago I could not keep any plant alive for long because I seemed to think they always needed water and I really, really watered them to death. Since I've gotten older my attention span is shorter, I'm lazier and I don't have a set watering schedule but my plants have adjusted well. The high humidity we have here in Florida doesn't hurt either. Green Grin!

You should try Hoya Shooting Star..grows well indoors, and not succulent-like. It actually enjoys sitting in water. Loves water a lot! Smiling

I agree, I couldn't keep Shooting Star Hoya (Hoya multiflora) alive because I never remembered to water it!

Superb Hoyas here! I know this might not be the right place, but Idk where to ask: where can I find Hoyas for sale in stores, even nurseries, in Inland Empire (SoCal)?
It's been more than a year since I've been looking for them and no luck whatsoever. One nursery had some H. compacta which is the one I like the least (possible pests problems that could spread to my other tropicals), so I didn't buy it. But then I keep checking on all the big stores each time I go int he area and still no luck. I have a few cuttings rooting but some of them didn't make it in transportation and it will take forever for the one that rooted to grow to blooming size.
Please help with possible locations to find Hoyas in stores and/or nurseries. TIA.

I don't know if Kartuz Greenhouse in Vista, Ca is near you but they carry Hoya's. Here's there website, on the first page to the left click on vines and climbers to see which hoya's they have: http://www.kartuz.com/

You can read recommendations for this company by other ATP members here: Kartuz Greenhouses

I know, I've checked their website a while ago, they have only 10 types of Hoyas. They don't say anywhere how small they are, I think for that price they must be tiny. Also, it'd be the same with shipping from anywhere else since they're about 75 miles away from me. So not a large variety to choose from, not nearby either. Sad I have no idea why Hoyas are so hard to find, especially in a climate like ours.
Thank you anyway. Smiling

One of a kind is never enough when it comes to plants.

I find one I like and search out all the varieties I can find. I was sharing some spider plants with a friend and she couldn't believe there was more than one type.

Spiders, Kalanchoes, Hoya, Tradescantia, Sanevieria, Stapelia, Aloes, Haworthia, Cryptanthus, Cissus, Drimia and now Bromeliads. When will it ever end!?!! Whistling

Pod I love your Bromelaid variety. I started picking a few up last yr because I had never tried them.

I like a challenge and trying a plant that I have never grown before and being successful makes my day. So far I think this is going to be a new obsession. Hilarious! Growing plants indoors through the winter that are plants for warmer climates is a good challenge for me. I like that I can water them and water is not all over the place. All winter I kept some bottled water next to them an pour it right in their cup.

I only have 3 Cryptanthus and they do very good in the house in the winter.

This was my favorite all winter. I see you have this one too.

Very nice Cinta! I have that same Aechmea on my screened porch. We're moving next year and at the new house I plan on putting it in a tree in the yard to see how it likes living outside year round.
