So true. Pirl so true.

I'm waiting for my roses to bloom. Also waiting for someone to get back from picking up my roommate so i can go out to get more outside plants from the farmers market.

Pirl ...

I think patience is one of the most valuable life lessons a garden teaches the gardener.

I just want to know HOW one gets a photo of a peony bud that does NOT have ants on it! Hilarious!

You must live a charmed life. Hilarious! That's one of the reasons I almost never bring peonies in the house as cut flowers. Maybe it's just our area?

Ah, and did you know that you can make little moats to keep the ants out of your hummingbird feeders? I've tried this, and it works. You just have to make sure there's water in the moat.

Woofie - I don't bring peonies in the house for exactly the same reason. If they don't have ants I would wonder what's wrong!

thanks Thumbs up the flowers of the Husker Red are actually white. see pic from last summer. I assume its called Husker "Red" because of the foliage being burgundy when its new...? turning to a dark green as summer goes on...

we use soaker hoses for watering everything but the odd plant here and there. otherwise we'd be out there for hours, literally. might be a good idea for you as well...? just lay the mulch right over top of it.

You can also purchase ant moats for hummingbird feeders, by the way. I ended up doing that rather than trying to cobble something together. It was not expensive at all, and it worked quite well. I had to hunt a little but now that everything and its cousin is online, should be easy to find.
