Hurray! I'm so excited! Finally...I have a bunch of Frostweed seedlings in my vermiculite container! Any tips on transplanting, growing-on, soil and water needs, or anything else of interest would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much, Josephine! I tip my hat to you.

I've just now figured out the best spot for it, too; looking into the dark woods at the edge of a part sun, half wild area. I need height and white in that spot! Hurray! I think it will really shine beyond the dark green arbor, too.

Here's the spot.

Thumb of 2015-05-26/chelle/5dd449

There are white clematis in the area in late spring, Casa Blanca lilies in summer and palest blue clematis in early autumn. Hopefully the Frostweed will bloom shortly after the late clematis is finished. Smiling

Congrats, Chelle!! For me, it's always rewarding to grow wildflowers from seed!!

I usually find Frostweed growing wild in shady or dappled shade areas, usually not in open sun. I think you found the perfect spot for it!! Thumbs up Hurray!

Could you tell me about how long it took for these seed to germinate? Did you just plant them in a good potting mix indoors or did you winter sow the seed? So excited Hurray! to grow this plant but I can't find much on actual germination techniques. Thank you.

I think winter sowing is best, it usually just volunteers for me. Good luck with your Frostweed. Smiling

Myles,

Sorry for the slow response, but here are my notations:

On January 27, 2015 Seeds sown
(W/S - Warm 3 wks, then move outdoors.)
On May 12, 2015 Seeds germinated
(Est. germination date - seedlings observed 2015-05-24.)

I sowed my seeds on a vermiculite base in a sealed container and kept them at room temp for several weeks. After that I moved the container outdoors (out of direct sunlight) and just allowed fluctuating outdoor temps to guide the sprouting sequence.

Hope this helps. Smiling
