yeah i've heard some mixed reviews on that, i'm just growing a bunch for the first time so I have yet to see what flowers are produced, do you have personal experience with any particular variety not coming true? thanks

I have heard that Pow wow wild berry . White Swan , and Purple (the native ) are about all that breed true , (exception are a couple of annuals .
I have a real slow growing Milkshake that the Double blooms did not even come true from cuttings ( how bad is that ?) Shrug!

I thought we were talking about seeds , not cuttings.

well the OP was asking about seeds, and it was pointed out that seeds do not come true many times. So then the fix may be to use cuttings of plants you already have to get more plants and that way you would know they would be the same kind/quality. But then it was pointed out that cuttings do not always perform true to the parent plant. So the question here is--how does one get more plants of the same kind and quality without buying pricey seeds or flat out having to buy the plant again?

I suppose the experience of trial and error , shows why here ,, Grafting , cell pressing , cross pollinating , all show why , some Echinacea (Coneflower lovers , have gone through the time to learn how ,
I have done of my efforts a double purple before , lived about 4 years , and some off color shades from seeds .
As for seeds , Milkshake (seed does not come true or will be Sterile , ? seed luck ) Purple (native )
And perhaps White Swan ( as the season ends I will usually have ,
My Coneflowers are only beginning to bloom ,

Every coneflower I have came from seed bought online save the original purple. If they don't come true from seed how can they sell them? Thanks

They (producers) know the pollinating or Hybridization techniques required for the variety , Sometimes even seeds you buy from producers have variations of the variety being purchased ,
