I've got two fans of Blue Beetle (Thanks James!). Each fan has two scapes, and none of them have bloomed yet. One fan has scapes that are close to the same size, and the other fan has a tall scape, and a very short scape. The scapes are growing next to each other, but aren't touching, as there is a leaf between them. I'm not sure if the fans were trying to split, but didn't, or what it is that is happening, as I've never seen this before. Is there a name for this, other than FANTASTIC?

Is that what would be considered instant rebloom? I watched a video the other day and saw a daylily with three scapes at once on it, Karol Emmerich daylilies I think. I Wonder how much stress that places on a plant?

Larry, I always thought that instant rebloom was when a scape would start blooming and then another would start growing before it was done blooming. But, I have no daylilies that have ever done that, so I'm really not sure.

I think on the one she showed, one was blooming, one was ready to replace that one, and another had already come up.

I'm not sure if that's rebloom or division in process. I can tell you it's never done that here that I am aware of. Maybe you'll get some cool doubles!

Last year (first year of bloom) Exotic treasure had four scapes and then four rebloom scapes that started about the same time the original scapes began to bloom, and started blooming when there were just a few blooms left on the original scape. I believe this is instant rebloom. For a Northern garden like mine, I think this is awesome, as the few plants that have regular rebloom, don't look great, because they are so late that low temps affect them, but instant rebloom is during warm weather. It would be great to hear if any one else has had instant rebloom, and with what cultivators. Perhaps I should start another thread for people to list their instant rebloom Daylilies.

I'm just thrilled to have the plant to begin with. Having four scapes on two fans is a serious bonus, and something I would have never expected!

Maybe my idea of instant rebloom isn't exactly correct. Looking at the fan on the left, it is very likely that both scapes will be blooming at the same time. I'm sure the taller one will start first, since it is obviously closer to blooming, but I always thought that one scape would get part way done with blooming before the second scape started growing. Like I said before, I have never had a daylily with instant rebloom, so I don't know what happens. The fan on the right looks a little closer to what I'd think of as instant rebloom, since one scape is very tall, and the other is very short. Looks like the tall one could be about done when the shorter one starts. It is mostly the fan on the left that has me totally confused. Happy, but confused! I've had a couple that rebloomed once or twice, but the first scape is always done, and then a short rest period happened, before the new scape started growing.

Gale, I think some daylilies in the database are listed as being instant rebloomers. That would probably come from the hybridizer though, and wouldn't necessarily mean that it would happen for everyone. If a daylily is a consistent rebloomer, it would be great to know! I try to mostly purchase ones that the hybridizer lists as rebloomers, even though that never really works out for me. I've got hope though!

Yes, this is instant rebloom, but not a weird kind. I have the double scaping like that on every fan of a couple of my seedlings. Plus I almost always have it on five or six of my registered daylilies. It looks like you will be blessed with a ton of blooms on Blue Beetle. Lucky you!

Natalie I think what you are seeing might be a side-effect from using Pterodactyl manure fertilizer

Thanks Debra! So, instant rebloom doesn't always start when one scape ends, or is most of the way done? Looks to me like these will be blooming pretty much at the same time, though there will be at least a few days until the second one starts to bloom. I've always been confused about instant rebloom, which is pretty obvious! I also thought that the scapes would grow from the same spot, but these aren't, which just added to the confusion.

Blue Beetle is listed as being a rebloomer, but not instant rebloom. Whichever one it is, I'm thrilled with it! I have had almost no daylilies that rebloomed, even though most of mine should. I just lived in too cold of a zone previously for them to get a chance to rebloom. Another reason why I'm so happy that I moved!

I have had new scapes start before old ones finished on Moonlit Masquerade and Mighty Chestnut last 2 years. At least one other one but cannot remember the name. This happened well before first frost.
