I ordered Midas Touch from Jackson & Perkins and much to my surprise received a different rose. I went to their website in an effort to ID this rose. To me it looks like Summer Night. All opinions are welcome.
I took a few photos between yesterday and today. I labeled the photos with the time and date. As you can see, the bud initially opened a reddish color and within 2 hrs. it changed to more of a shocking pink. Here's the pics and the J&P link as follows:

I'm not sure whether it can be identified unequivocally as Summer Nights. That is the rose on their website that resembles your rose most closely, but I get the impression, from the HMF description and photos, that the rose starts out yellow, with just the slightest pink edge, and then becomes more and more pink gradually. Yours is barely yellow at all.

If I weren't limited to the roses currently offered by J&P, I'd guess it's Flaming Peace or some other similar rose.

Hmm - Flaming Peace. I'll just have to wait till it opens up more. It's raining here off and on. I might end up sending some photos off to J&P. As far as the color yellow is concerned it was more pronounced as it first began to open but the camera wasn't picking it up that well. When I was adjusting the camera, I was concentrating on the main color (red - pink). I always try very hard to get the colors as accurately as possible. I'll tell you the end result. Thank you very much for trying to help me.

I think you are on the right track, Zuzu.

The rose that came to mind for me was 'Desert Peace'

Of course, for all we know, Summer Nights might be a new name for one of those "Peace" roses. Big Grin J&P has never listed a registration name for it, and those roses are suspicious. A few years ago they introduced 'Mesmerized.' They didn't list the registration name, but they couldn't resist saying that it was a former Rose of the Year. It turned out to be the 2006 rose 'Spellbound.' Someone must have consulted a thesaurus to come up with the new name.

Zuzu ....

J & P stopped registering roses and patenting roses when the current company bought the brand name when they bought J & P out of bankruptcy. I've never trusted that they were not reintroducing an old rose with a new name. Yes, they had roses in the pipeline, but I still can't make myself trust them.

I stopped trusting them in 2007. I had a gift card for $200 and they said that the gift card information had not been transferred to them during the changeover.

Zuzu and Sue, do you think that it could be Miss Behavin? Could you please look at the second set of photos that I submitted on June 17. Photos 4 and 5 show the reverse side of the petal changed in color within a 3 hr. period of time from a creamy yellowish (apricot?) to white. Thanks a bunch

Yes, it very well could be Miss Behavin'. I bought mine almost 10 years ago from MerryGro, a Florida nursery that sold J&P roses grafted onto Fortuniana rootstock. It's one of the healthiest roses in my garden. There's a good chance that it's still prominent among J&P's offerings because of its high performance ratings.

Now look at the way it is described here on the site.

The Justia site description is nuts. I would never, ever describe it as light red with a ight pink reverse.

All of the photos in our database show it as a medium-pink or deep-pink rose with a lighter reverse, sometimes white and sometimes yellow. I must admit that your rose is redder than any of our photos, so it might be a different cultivar.

while on the above link for Jactorse I wanted to see what it said about Jacfrain. So I clicked on that link:
http://patents.justia.com/pate...
I scrolled down to "comparison with similar variety". The way I am reading it, it says Jactorse has a cream reverse. But yet on the previous link it states a pink reverse.
"COMPARISON WITH SIMILAR VARIETY

Although it is difficult to find a comparison variety, ‘JACtorse’ (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 12,129) is an example variety. ‘JACfrain’ differs from ‘JACtorse’ in flower color (yellow, pink, orange blend for ‘JACfrain’ versus deep pink with creamy reverse for ‘JACtorse’) and in fragrance (apple for ‘JACtrose’ versus musk for ‘JACfrain’)."

I found more info on various forums. Some people stated it had a white reverse, others apricot and yet others creamy yellow. It's a good thing I took photos. It's almost unbelievable that the reverse petal color changed so quickly in a matter of a few hours.
Here's the RHS cards for reference

This is so confusing.

Justia is simply a legal information site. Lawyers use it to look up cases. There is no central registry for roses.

Miss Behavin' is on page 6 of the latest J&P catalog, so it's back among their foremost offerings. I'm sure that's what they sent you instead of Summer Nights.

I agree. Except for one thing - they were suppose to send me Midas Touch. Last year they sent me the Pope - thrips and all. Now I have spent the entire summer fighting thrips. The flower blooms, I take a quick photo, cut the flower off and throw it in the garbage because I know tomorrow it will look like garbage due to these insects. Anyone here know how to get rid of these insects? Please tell me.
Thanks very much for your help Zuzu - you are one fantastic lady.
