well, I've gone and bought a load of daylily seeds on LA Whistling
What is the best way to keep them if I am not able to process them right away?

Dry and dark (in an envelope for instance) or wet and cold (fridge), or...?
And how long can you keep them that way?

Thank You!

Keep them dry in a plastic bag in the fridge.
They will last a very long time. (Years) although I think it is best to plant them the first year.

I do plan to plant them this summer, but it's good to know how to store them if I don't get around to planting all of them Thumbs up

Mayo - Welcome to ATP! I keep mine in those small plastic baggies in the crisper bin of my refrigerator. And when I collect my own seeds, I let them chill there for about a month before planting.

Cindy, that is priceless!

They need to be chilled at least 3 weeks before you plant them so I also put them in plastic bags in the veggie drawer of my fridge.

hi Cindy! Thumbs up

Ah, so I've come to the right people for advice Big Grin
I'm learning sooo much from all of you , thank you for putting up with all my newbie questions!

I want to do things right and what better way than asking the 'profs' ? Thank You!

I'm REALLY looking forward to planting the seeds..
Seeing the very first shoot emerge must be wonderful!!! Hurray!

Cindy, a lot of the parent plants of the seeds you offered are DL's I would love to have, but it's not allowed anymore to import DL's from the USA into Europe.. Sad
But this way I can raise their offspring Big Grin
And I wouldn't mind if some of them looked exactly like one of their parents! Whistling

Mayo - I want to make a suggestion .... when you start your seeds, hold 2 or more seeds back .... just in case. I can't tell you how many times something happened with my seeds/seedlings and I was smart enough to keep a few in the refrigerator for back-ups. After the inital seedlings grew well, then I sowed the rest of the seeds. Each seedling will produce a unique plant and blooms. Some seedlings may look similar and some will have siblings that look quite different. So you never know what that little tiny seed will produce. Just don't plant all the seeds at once. Best to keep a few seeds of each cross as a back-up! Thumbs up

hi Becky,

oh, that's a very good idea! Thank You!
As an absolute beginner it might indeed be wise to keep seeds as backup Whistling

Yes, it will be very exciting to see how the seedlings will turn out !
Who knows, maybe in a year or 3 I will register a couple of new cultivars with the AHS! Rolling on the floor laughing

Thank You!

Mayo, do you know about the Lily Auction. Lots of seeds for sale there. Also, there are some sellers not far from you. Francois Verhaert is in Belguim.
