The photo shows my little finger nail next to the blossom. The whole plant is very small. This is something we dug from a neighbor's garden a few weeks ago, and it just started to bloom. So cute - I've never seen anything like it!

I have, but most do not seem small enough. The flower is no larger than an inch, and scapes are maybe 5-6 inches tall at most.
And yes, I know there are thousands of daylilies, as there are irises. But it can't hurt to ask, right?

Could be Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Taunus Gold Whirl')

There aren't many daylilies with 1" or less bloom size.

Jeanie, I agree, it never hurts to ask! I don't know Daylilies although I have a few so I googled for dwarf yellow DL's and came up with those in my earlier post. There are so many folks here who grow lots of these beauties that I figure someone might recognize it and be able to help with an ID.

Lin, great suggestions and thanks for the links. They seem a bit large. I think what I have in the pot is close to full size, as I dug up a pretty good clump. I will keep watch and keep measuring as the season progresses.

I see that the AHS doesn't have a picture of 'Taunus Gold Whirl' but I found a photo on this European page, just scroll down a tad: http://www.hemerocallis-europa...

Dave and Lin, close but mine does not have a ruffled edge.
What would be smaller than dwarf? Miniature? Itty bitty? Sticking tongue out Maybe finding the right word for the size would help in my searches.

Found Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Bitsy') but scape length doesn't match.

and Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Eenie Weenie') that's close

The American Hemerocallis Society registrations database only shows eight daylilies with a flower of one inch or less, and no daylilies registered with a flower of one inch and a scape height less than 10". Have you measured the flowers and scape height exactly with a ruler?

Edited to add, I have small hands and I just measured my little finger at slightly less than half an inch across. Unless your fingers are much smaller than mine, I'm thinking that puts the flower size in your picture at nearer 1.5". That brings up 45 registered daylilies, the shortest yellow of which are 'Penny Earned' (9" scape), and 'Yellow Tinkerbell' (8" scape). There's also 'Pixel' but it has a green throat and there's only a hint of green on yours. I'm not finding a picture of 'Yellow Tinkerbell', but this is 'Penny Earned':

Great minds - I just finished going through the Society database. I looked at anything 2" or less, allowing for potential growth since it just opened, and looking at scapes 12" or less or the same reason. I made a list and will check each of them. Both Penny Earned and Yellow Tinkerbell are on the list! Back in awhile....

Couldn't it be just a "natural cross" for lack of a better word, just one of a kind only in that garden?Do the people ever remember buying such a small daylily?

I know the couple who lived in the home. He is deceased, and she has Alzheimer's, so there is no chance I could get any answer from them. So far this most resembles Penny's Worth, Penny Earned, or Elf Caps. Eenie Weenie is too lemon yellow. The color of this is a very soft pale yellow, and I do see a slight green throat.

This has been a learning experience. I have several daylilies that apparently are considered dwarf or miniature, like Apricot Sparkles, Raspberry Pixie, Stella D'Oro, and Pandora's Box. But they seem HUGE compared to this one. Even the foliage is so small it appears almost grasslike.

You know what the bad part about this is? I am now fascinated with little tiny daylilies. Somehow I see myself wanting to find all kinds of them and plant them in my yard...and I really really don't need more plants.... Sighing!

You really don't need more plants? Is there anyone here who says that at least once a week...as they peruse the sale on their favorites, or is it just me? LOL
