So what did you see this week?
Thought it might be advantageous to have a thread where we could report what we are seeing in our gardens and about.

((just needed a photo )) not spotted this year, old photo.

I saw the ground hog that lives down the road on an empty lot. She has been there a couple years now but I had not seen her for about three weeks and was afraid something had happened to her. Well today she was out and had a baby with her. Guess she has been busy.

What have you seen?

THe deer in the wheat
Thumb of 2015-06-24/gardengus/ced0eb

This photo was taken a couple weeks ago , the wheat has turned a golden color now.
This morning She crossed in front of my car and stopped short and looked back . I thought she was looking at me so I stopped to just look back. I was not me she was looking at but waiting for her small spotted baby to cross safely and join her. The fawn crossed after a couple tries of being frightened and turning back. It was small and very spotted with long wobbly legs.
A welcome sight. Smiling

If I knew how to post a video (from our photo files) that we took of the mama and the babies getting fed from her, I'd show it. Sighing!

Also 3 to 4 foot black snake slithering in the yard last week. Blinking

Lucky you! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! I love toads in the garden. Lovey dubby We don't have any here, but the last time I saw one was in the Fall when I was planting bulbs.

We've seen a couple of turtles here and there, but they don't stay.

What name have you thought to give your toad?

There's two cotton tail rabbits that we see everyday hanging out in the grass near the briars where they live. I'm pretty sure one of them is Peter Cottontail. Rolling my eyes. Will get a picture today.

Cinda, that is one fat frog! He must be eating well. Good froggy!

Poor lizard isn't much on having his picture taken.

The strangest thing I've seen lately is this bat hanging about three feet off the ground, right next to the garage door. Walked passed him all day and he didn't seem bothered much. He stayed for about three days when a storm blew through. He tried to take cover from the rain and wind in the fence but couldn't find a good spot. Poor little guy, I felt so bad for him. I think he was a juvenile male, maybe just left the mom. I read the males will go off by themselves and the females will stay with the mom.

Out mowing this evening and spotted this tree frog waiting for dark and the porch light ...buffet.

He is much larger than most I see and seems a bit upset I had to use the flash to get a good shot.

Hi Cinda,

The bat must look bigger than he is because it's actually probably about half the size of my hand, small in my definition of a bat. I'm not sure but I think its probably an Evening Bat (Nycticeius humeralis). It best fits the description for my area. I live in an area where there is still deciduous forest around us. I've seen bats flying around but never hanging so close to have an opportunity to get a good look at one before.

What do you think?

We have a lots of deer around here. But this doe in particular hangs around a lot. She ate most of my lily buds this year. Right now we see her always by herself. I assume the other does have fawns they are taking care of.

I was standing on my front porch for this photo.

She sure looks like she's eating good. Hilarious! We have many deer around too but they aren't coming close so much because of the dogs. But, I think it was the deer who ate all the plums in our plum trees. They always seem to know exactly when the fruit is ripe.

A crèche of wild turkeys passed through my yard today. There were three adults and about 17 cute little ones. They were moving pretty fast, chasing grasshoppers. Sorry about the poor photograph - by the time I had adjusted my camera's zoom, the turkeys were disappearing into the bushes.
