With almost 200 orchids and lots of other plants, I am always running out of room and looking for creative ways to hang more plants.

I love any way we can re-use or re-purpose a discarded items for the garden. This makes our lives fuller and keeps the landfills from overflowing. Great idea, Patty! I wonder if rebar would do instead of PVC pipe? It may be sturdier and my pots are heavy when the soil is wet. I guess I will try it and see. I love the swing frame idea. So many children's old swing sets go to the landfills and instead they could have a second life in the garden. Thanks for posting this idea.

Thank you, Bonnie and Cinda!

I'm sure rebar would work...or you may have to go a little shorter than 10 feet. Even my copper pipe tends to get a little sway in the middle if the pots are too heavy, but if I put the heaviest ones on the two ends it straightens everything out again!

That would balance it out. Perhaps even rebar inside a PVC pipe for extra strength. I hope everyone uses your idea for their 'hanging gardens'.

Patty, I love tropical plants and orchids. We were in Fl. this May and came home with the whole back of the Subaru filled with plants. I will drop by and take a look at your plants. I post pics of my plants in the Growing Tropicals in the North thread in the Tropical Forum.

I'll take a look at it Holly.
I love to share my stuff...if there's anything in particular you would like that I have I'd be happy to send you some....right now I have some seeds from the "coral tree" in my yard (they grow really fast), and I have some seed pods from my dwarf poinciana, and I can always take cuttings from my plumeria and jatropha if you'd like...(I don't know too many names, but I can take pics!) Not sure what would grow up there in Pa though....
I'm a native New Yorker....I love my orchids, but I'd rather be growing lilacs and japanese maple and lilacs and lots of evergreens and lilacs and bulbs and lilacs....and have chipmunks in my yard! Did I mention I would love to grow some lilacs? Whistling
I'll send you anything if you'll just send me some winter! Rolling on the floor laughing

Thanks for the offer Patty, I did think that you got a little taste of last winter but maybe you are too far south for it to have touched you.

Great ideas, Patty. I especially like the kids' swing set one. I could use that one in our back yard now that we have converted it into stones and use pots to provide interest.
