I've been wondering for awhile if this is some sort of Tradescantia? I sometimes find it trailing through flower beds and I always yank it, thinking it's a weed. Next time I see some I might pot it up to see if I can get it to bloom and try to get an exact ID. I remember years ago a popular hanging basket houseplant that looked like this. Aha ... the name just came to me "Tahitian Bridal Veil" which used to be sold as Tradescantia multiflora but I see it's now classified as Tahitian Bridal Veil (Gibasis geniculata)
I took this photo back in August 2012 at our old house but I found something recently in a flower bed I was weeding that looked identical to this. It may be something other than Tradescantia but it sure resembles the Tahitian Bridal Veil plant of old What do y'all think, anyone recognize it by this picture?
LOL, yep, Commelina is exactly what it is ... dang, I knew it was Commelina! We have a couple that are common in my county of Florida, Commelina communis & Commelina diffusa are prevalent. I'm pretty certain this one is C. diffusa.

I have this around my back deck, I love the bright blue flowers and it does spread, but it is easy to just tug out where I don't want it. It's hardy and doesn't require pampering.
I plant coleus, impatiens and have some hostas in there. It only gets evening sun.

Gibasis geniculata leaves are purple on the back.
When there's a bloom, you could try to ID it. There are several Commelinas, all have blue flowers, some native, some exotic. If it doesn't end up blooming this summer, it's probably Tradescantia fluminensis, which blooms white, early in the spring.

Well, I'm certain that the one in my above photo was Dayflower (Commelina), possibly diffusa but for the time being I put it in the general database entry since I'm not sure of exact species; we have a couple of them that are common in this part of Florida.

Cool! It should bloom soon, if there's any (unpulled) to be seen. I have a few sprouts in my beds, anxiously awaiting some flowers. Every time I've found C. erecta "out there," I've been unsuccessful transplanting it.

The Commelina that was trailing through the flower bed behind our back porch are now gone; yanked out along with some beautiful but extremely invasive Cashmere Bouquet (Clerodendrum bungei) yesterday morning.
