I did read on the AHS group on Facebook that a member is learning to do tissue cultures, but who knows how long that will take to show up at the nurseries? I guess I'd better be thankful that I had the opportunity to buy several of Mark Zilis' beauties to add to my collection! He will definitely be missed in the coming years when there are no new, affordable varieties available.

I bought about 2,000 hosta liners last summer when QandZ announced that they were going out of business.

Shady Oaks also went out of business last summer. I bought many from them also.

I posted here many for sale this spring and very few members took advantage of the offerings.
Many are looking for the cheapest offerings instead of looking for quality hostas at good prices.

I have a mature Hosta garden that is heavily planted....crowded.......no use for liners here even at cheap prices........I suspect that some who post here don't want to deal with liners........

I bought some nice 4"pots from him that were newer varieties. I thought Shady Oaks quit selling hosta when Hansen left.

My step mother sells hostas but you must go to garden Hansen tissue cultured hers. Some are famous "Silk Road " is one others with Dr. Bennidick. My father owns Gowens Gardens , Excelsior , MN. Hanson is a friend too. Where can I get in touch with him? I took many photos of his place before he moved.

Its the science of taking tissue from one plant and creating thousands of clones from it. Its the reason new Hosta introductions cost 35 to 45 dollars instead of 250 to 350 dollars.

Thank You! Thank You!

Let me understand, they create a hybrid from two plants. Then they take the offspring
and do tissue culture to create clones of the new variety for sale?
