As we go through the Daylily databases (ATP's and AHS's), it's easy to be left wondering how the color REALLY looks. Although I can't give a perfect picture, I CAN put some of the blooms side by side for a comparison so that anyone looking for a 'redder' red or a 'blacker' red can have some point of reference.

This picture is taken around 6:30pm after a rainy, yucky day (~75 degrees) and some of them held up better than others, so this comparison also tests colorfastness and substance after rain and wind.

Some of my reds (click on pic to see them all):
Thumb of 2015-07-07/DogsNDaylilies/ecd0fe

Left to right:
Ruby Spider, Tom Wise, Night Embers, Palace Guard, St. Elmo's Fire, Kent's Favorite Two, Black Plush

I will try to post future comparisons after hot, sunny days, etc.

Feel free to post your own picture comparisons of flowers to this thread if you want. Please just make sure that the blooms are side-by-side in the same picture and similarly-colored so that we get a true comparison of how one's color compares to another's.

I'm hoping to purchase some near-whites soon, if anyone has a bunch of open white buds and could post a color comparison picture, that would be great! Thumbs up

when I take photo's of my DL's they never are the right color on my laptop... Sad

Especially the violet and blue undertones seem to be lost after photographing.
How do you do that, Photoshop until it looks right?

Thank You!

Personally, I wouldn't Photoshop your images, it might get you a bad rap. Also, the idea of this thread is that it's about comparison, so it's likely that we'll atleast be able to see which is the bluest or most purple of the bunch when they are side by side. Smiling

Here are some reds I did a comparison of on another site a few days ago... Looks like you might have to click on it to see all four. It was taken in the evening on a day that was mid 80s, full sun. All of these daylilies are in the same bed in my yard, no afternoon shade. Insider Trading, Fabulous Frieda, Fern Stone and Wispy Rays.

And here is Soul On Fire and Forever Redeemed, a few days earlier, late afternoon. Wasn't as hot that day.

Here is Forever Redeemed and Wispy Rays on that same afternoon.

Thanks! I love them both. I just got Forever Redeemed last year, so that bloom was the FFOE for me...

Purp's (With the exception of Ruby, who is only there to show how red-purple Symphony of Fire is):

Thumb of 2015-07-08/DogsNDaylilies/6363a7

Back: Ruby Spider
Front, Left to Right: "Seedling 2" (not my creation), Evening Enchantment, Symphony of Fire, "Becky's Curls" (Garden name, not my creation).
Weather Conditions: Cloudy, ~65 degrees, moderate humidity

I don't have a lot of purple opened up today. I wanted to throw Night Embers in, but no blooms today. Same with Starman's Quest, "Seedling 3", and Black Plush. And the clump of Dominic I just bought has zero scapes right now, so I likely won't see that at all this year. I considered throwing So Many Stars in the picture because of her purple-ish eye, but I didn't know how I felt about that...plus I might pollinate the one open bloom I have of SMS right now. (Maybe I'll compare her to Libby's Trail later in the season as my only two peaches...assuming I can get a bud from each at the same time.)

Olallie Red and Spider Man look like they are close to budding, so I might do some more red comparisons tomorrow or the next day and, if I can get more purples to open, I might get a better comparison picture.

The large majority of my daylilies are red and purple, so unfortunately my color comparisons are limited. I'm relying on all other ATP members to contribute other colors, so I hope others join in this quest for comparison pictures! nodding I'm still hoping someone does their white blooms!

Here are my whites/creams/light light yellows that were blooming today. Cool day (mid 60s), very little sun. Some of these get a lot lighter in the heat and sun. From left to right (click the picture to see them all): Heavenly Angel Ice, Winter Treasure, Arctic Lace, Last Snowflake (FFO today), Green Mystique, and From Darkness Comes Light. I have a few others in this color range, but they weren't blooming today.

Yay! Thank You! Thanks, Laura, for posting some whites! Hurray! heavenly Angel Ice and Arctic Lace are my two favorites from that bunch. What beauties! I'm going to have to go research those two and see if they have enough of the other traits I'm looking for to put into my hybridizing program.

I lost my long time Green Mystique to an abnormally cold winter a couple of years ago. Seeing yours makes me miss it all over again. Nice way to show the difference in daylilies of the same colors...........Maryl

Boy! I really love that Wispy Rays bloom!

I had bought a cross of Wispy Rays on LA but unfortunately none germinated, so I was able to get a refund. But I would have rather had the seedlings.

Laura, nice photo! I don't normally go for watermarks as much, but Wispy Rays and Rev it Up caught my eye in your picture!
