Lilies and 'Laddin's Lamp

By Sharon
July 8, 2015

They are the ancestors of all the lovely hybrids that we enjoy in our gardens today, those wild lilies that grow freely in different parts of the world. They have different faces, different names in other places, but I was the lucky one. The beautiful Turk's Cap Lily grew wild and wonderful in the Southern Appalachian mountains of Southeast Kentucky where I grew up.

I can remember my first encounter with these. Your article reinforces my memories of seeing them in the wild. I too was a child of the woods, lakes and streams: Still am whenever I get out of the house! Thanks Sharon for a very entertaining look at some natural beauties! Truly enjoyable. Thumbs up

Well shut mah ever-lovin' piehole. It's about merry ol' time I read something of yours, Sharon.

Thanks for the walk in the woods. Those are some of my most favorite flowers. And I now wonder, are "Turk's Cap" the same as "Tiger lilies" or is there a difference in the two? Any idea?

Great to see you still sharing your childhood, stories, knowledge, and adventures! Rock on! Or Walk On - and share some more!

Best to you and yours,
Shoe

Well Shoe!! What fun to hear from you. Yep, I reckon it was 'bout time that I started writin' again. Good therapy, I think.

I believe Tiger Lilies are L lancefolium, not positive about that but think so. Turk's Cap lilies are L superbum, so there is a bit of a difference though I'm not sure what that difference is. I never liked Tiger Lilies much, I always thought they were going around trying to be Turk's Caps when they weren't. Phonies, you know Smiling

I'll be writing more, promise. My fingers didn't forget how to type at all. Big Grin

Really really great to hear from you. Hope this gardening season has been sooooo good!

Oops, my lack of ATP'ing is now evident. I haven't been online much lately so forgive my tardy Thank You/reply. Thanks for the info on the phony Turk's Cap! *grin

Hope all is well in the great state of Kentucky. And yep, keep writing, er, uh, typing.

Best to you and yours,

All's well, Shoe, except I have to quit reading the signs on the bank. Today it said 99 degrees. Made me a whole lot hotter after I read it than before.

Stay cool over there.
Wishing you well. Group hug
