Hi grandmx4! I have a small Crepe Myrtle (Lagerstroemia 'Ebony Flame') Also known as 'Best Red' growing in a container and I never trimmed any branches or leaves when I planted it last August/September. I can't offer advice on fertilizing because I'm really bad about feeding my plants. *Blush* Hopefully someone else who grows this beauty will pop in with suggestions regarding the fertilizer.

I have one that I planted early last summer. I don't recall giving it fertilizer then, but this year I have sprinkled Osmacote around the base; and a few days ago I sprayed with some liquid seaweed. I also just cut the seeds off and hopefully I will get another flush of gorgeous flowers. I live close to the ocean, but so far the salt air doesn't seem to have affected it in any way.

@orchidgal Elfie, that is gorgeous! You should add that pretty photo to the database!

I really need to think about feeding mine, it hasn't bloomed yet this year but the huge Crepe's in the ground around the neighborhood are just popping into bloom ... a bit late this year for some reason.

Somewhere I read that we shouldn't fertilze crepe myrtles , that it makes all that food go into growing leaves and not flowers? Anyone?

Crepe Myrtle blooms on new growth and that they are heavy feeders (an all purpose like 8-8-8 or 10-10-10 fertilizer works well) but I'm just really lazy when it comes to feeding any of my plants. *Blush*

Some good Crepe Myrtle information here: http://www.crapemyrtle.com/fer...

Elfie, I don't see a photo of your Crepe Myrtle (Lagerstroemia 'Ebony Flame') (A/K/A 'Best Red') in the database yet.

Jolana, Confused When I check your profile page I don't see that you've uploaded any images to the database.
