What new iris in your garden are you looking
forward to seeing bloom - the most?

I just received my box from Joe Ghio, and I'm entranced by photos of his pinkly gorgeous Star Turn !
The other order received today was from Salmon Creek, and included
Lakota, by Marky Smith - a brilliantly colored beauty.

Newer ones...

Solar Fire
Thornbird

I'm really looking forward to next year when I can see what blooms.

new?? hard to choose just one. I did wonder if Cookie Monster is as pretty as the picture posted of it and is Poignant going to have that shade of blue beard? If I concentrate on just one I may be really disappointed. Last springs disappointment was MDB Dragon Flamedart. Nothing like its photo and no dart.

Also looking forward to 'Haunted Heart', 'Insaniac', Painted Lady Lavender', Brainstorm...... Well, if I wasn't crazy about them, I wouldn't have ordered them... so many more... Whistling Rolling my eyes.

There's no way that I could pick one or two -- no way at all. Seeing the first bloom on a new Iris is what the addiction is all about!!

No dart of 2 years on Dragon Flame Dart. Anita was surprised when I told her, but she says it is often absent the first year. The color is great however.

I look forward to our seedlings every year. SDB 'Praise' was planted next to a plicata seedling of John's. It was put there so we could easily cross them. Hope that Praise has pollen as the seedling does not.

I do not think my mind can even wrap itself around the idea of 19 new NoIDs and 18+ new named iris. I know that is a paltry few to some of you but it doubles my varieties.

I can't wrap my head around "NoIDs" period. I don't get it. I would never have a NoID in my garden.
I really do want to know what it is I'm growing. I enjoy finding the information about each Iris I grow,
including the Hybridizer, date of introduction, and variety. But I do see that there are an increasing
number of individuals who end up with a lot of NoIDs in their gardens that were given to them from
family and friends. Smiling

I used think more like that, and had a need to know what I was growing. Then at some point someone points out that something I thought I knew the name of was actually mislabeled, but I'd grown to love it. Suddenly realizing the name I'd applied to it for so long was incorrect didn't decrease its beauty or garden worthy attributes, and so began an ever increasing number of noids. Some of the most gorgeous and vigorous irises in my garden are noids.

For me, half the fun of growing iris is the fun I have trying to ID a "NOID" ! I'll admit, I like "named" cultivars....I, too, enjoy researching their 'history", but, a name doesn't make it any more a thing of beauty in the garden, and being a "noid" doesn't seem to affect it's aroma, so, who am I to say they aren't worthy of a place in the sun ?!

Most of them aren't NOID's. They have a name, we just don't know it. Hilarious! There are some unregistered seedlings that have been propagated through trades and such. The reason we grow flowers is because they bring us joy. If only named irises bring you joy, then that's what you grow. The right way to do it, is what ever way you want to do it. Smiling

There are many reasons to enjoy a flower/plant. One of the best reasons is that it belonged to someone you care about, and they shared it with you. More important than its name is the sentiment. Shrug!

I grew up as a child admiring beautiful purple Iris, the classic "flag" in Pennsylvania. They had a wonderful aroma and were strikingly beautiful to look at, a massive clump of beauty, but I never did
know its Name or history, but nonetheless I loved it's incredible beauty !
