I have been admiring tall phlox and found some at a local nursery. Any way to make them clump up faster? These look pretty skinny just one lone stem, but at least I have starts of the white (David) and a purple.

Thanks, I will try to be patient. I drove by a house the other day and the lady has a clump of an odd lavender color. I almost stopped and asked could I trade her a plant for a start lol. I am going over the edge!

Mine do seed and the clumps get bigger every year. If you trim off the spent blooms they will bloom for quite awhile.

Teresa - Please consider going back and asking the owner if you can have a piece of the phlox. It's a great compliment to the owner!

My phlox just expand and don't seed at all. I bought four (three of each) from Blooming Bulb in early spring and was shocked and delighted to see them blooming already. I didn't take photos of the phlox shown here. They're just to show me where I planted each of them.

Mine have gotten so big that it's covering a small hydrangea! I'm going to have to move one or the other before next year. When is a good time to move phlox?

I LOVE phlox. I planted several way too late last yr and they didn't make it. I'm gradually finding replacements. I have a 4 ft tall pink phlox that the swallowtail butterflies adore. It starts blooming in late June for me and keeps going until I get tired of it in Sept/ Oct. It's also fragrant.
@pirl Arlene, your Franz Schubert, are the individual blooms as large as they seem? I had wondered about that one.
I have ordered 5 new plants from Perennial Pleasures in VT. They specialize in phlox.
@ge1836 awesome clumps! Drooling

I'd say the individual blooms must be 5" across.

Pirl, Does the Franz Schubert flop with those large blooms?
