How tall do Goldsturm get? My neighbor says hers are Goldsturm and they are about 30- 36 inches . The ones at Home depot say they only get 24 inches which is to short for me. Also a friend says hers are fulgida which I thought are goldsturm nd hers are also tall so Im confused. Thanks

Here's the entry from our Plant Database that came up when I searched for Rudbeckia Goldsturm. Black Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia fulgida var. sullivantii 'Goldsturm')

It says they get 2 to 3 ft. and that Goldsturm are indeed fulgida - or the other way around. Sorry, that info's not a whole lot of help. All I can say is gardening is an inexact science at best and plants have minds of their own as to how tall they will get to be. Let's just say if you buy big transplants in gallon size pots now, they might be 2ft. tall in late August when they will really start to bloom, and 3ft. tall in September when they are in their full stride. (it's a little late in the game to be starting tall perennials, needless to say)

I have some goldstrum and the height varies from plant to plant. But all in the 2-2&1/2 Ft tall range.

It does say deer resistant. Do not know if that is a concern for you but I did have a doe this year sample them. She just went along and nipped about 6 of them. Must not have found them too tasty as she did not eat anymore of them and just ate my lily buds! But they have recovered and are blooming now.

'Goldsturm' is a great plant, bright and reliable. The height can vary depending on location and probably moisture availability. It does really hate to get overly dry, especially when flowering. It also self-seeds, though, which can be a plus or a minus depending on one's viewpoint. Deer will occasionally munch on it here, but this year some plants are being seriously attacked by voracious rabbits! They are only going for the small plants such as volunteers, not for the established ones which are too big for them.

They are just starting to flower here in Ontario now, so earlier than Elaine's.

Yes they do self sow very easy. I have had them in different spots over the years according to my whims at the time. I now have them in a small bed that is just for them.

Deer wont be a problem for me. Rabbits are all over here though. How tall would you say your goldsturm are and how long did it take to mature? Thanks

I got a chance to measure some today, the taller ones were around 33". They don't take long to mature, I would guess probably a year to flower from volunteer seedlings but it depends on what you mean by mature.

I just bought 2 plants that are about 2 feet, I will keep my fingers crossed that they get taller, as of right now they are short for the place they are in. Thank for all the input!
