Growing in partial shade, sandy soil on my property. I was so hoping it was one of our native milkweeds but I can't find any which match it. Sad

This is another one of these plants nearby that had been broken off or bitten off but these are the bloom stalks coming off the remaining stem

And last but not least -- I pulled a leaf from the stem & there is milky sap

Thank you Josephine. There are quite a few of them out there. I just went to check again as if they will have changed since yesterday. Hilarious! Hilarious! The bloom stalks are originating from where the leaf stem joins the main stem and they apparently shoot up tall, most likely standing far above the foliage. At least that is what appears to be happening at this point.

Thanks Celia but it doesn't appear grasslike at all. Confused

I'm not at all sure, but it reminds me of Euphorbia bicolor. How tall is it? E. bicolor is a native plant here and I really like how it looks when it blooms. It blooms late in the season.

Donald, the tallest one thus far without the bloom stalk (the entire plant in the first photo) is about 15" high. It is certainly not E bicolor but I did just check all the euphorbias native to FL in the USDA site & found no matches. It seems all the euphorbias are glaucous & this is hirsute.

Thanks Paul. I wish it were! But no, it isn't. Super nice photo though. Thumbs up

I agree with Julia, it looks like a milkweed, don't y'all have a pineland milkweed there

Ann, have you tried breaking a stem or leaf to see if milky fluid comes out? Have you rubbed your fingers on the leaves to see what it smells like?

I'm sorry Julia. Brain freeze there. I don't know why I called you Paul.

Also I goofed when I said the USDA site -- it was the FL Vascular plants site.

Yes, we do but this is not it. Here is the pineland spurge

and I did find one that is E. pubentissima but it isn't it either:

Rolling on the floor laughing I thought I was missing something, kept looking at the names of people that posted. I see what you did, it is a nice photo from Paul. Has this plant bloomed, probably not since you didn't post a picture.

Beverly, yes, my last photo in my original post shows the milky sap when i pulled a leaf from the stem. I will try seeing what the leaves smell like & report back.
It seems the leaves are clasping but I can't be positive of that. I tried to determine yesterday exactly what constitutes clasping in botanical terms & am pretty sure these are clasping but have my doubts as to my ability to understand perfectly.

Thanks for trying Celia. Thumbs up

No, it has tiny buds as shown in my original post but no blooms yet. I am waiting. I feel like an expectant mother. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Hope you find out what it is, it bugs me so bad if I can't find answers. Today, I was so wrapped up trying to find out what plant a friend has but doesn't know the name, so when I was strolling through the nursery I really didn't see anything because I was looking to see if my friends plant was there, cuckoo
