It really looks like a young alocasia, but if it is, I have no idea which it would be!
The leaf shape is an elongated heart, like odora when very small, but it doesn't strike me as odora.
The real kicker is the petioles!
They ate very evenly covered with green vertical dashes... Against an almost white background.
A Mac. Variegated had streaks of white on green pets, Okinawa silver had more white vertical stripes than variegated. These are distinct dashes, equal length, and even spaced and distributed...
I'm at a lose!
I'm afraid it's another genus, possibly a giant calla, I'm just not sure of much about it other than its an aroid that makes tubers...
I hope the pics look better on full screens than they do on my 3" screen, the dashes are very noticeable in real life.

It's growing well, but seems sensitive to hot direct sun for extended time, as if it were variegated, but the leaves are solid light green with lighter veins...

Any suggestions are welcome, I'm a bit at a loss here. So many plants have popped up in collection this year, colocasias, alocasia, bananas... Other random stuff, but I can roughly ID them, I just don't know where they came from... This one, no id, no source...
Thank you folks!

I don't remember what the young leaves look like but do you have Synandrospadix vermitoxicus ? What do you think @dyzzypyxxy?

I've wondered that too, but I really don't think anyone sent me a wormkiller yet... But that's the best I can come up with...
It seems like they have similar vertical dashes on the stems

Yea, since it's not changed much, I've decided I agree, all the other small alocasia I have, already grew out and no longer look much like this plant...
Sadly the hose jumped outta my hand and completely obliterated this little guy, I had just gotten done admiring how nice it looked...then...SMASH!
Busted it all to pieces... Figures... There was 20 plants around it. I could have smashed any or even all of them and not cared much, as I have multiples... But no... Crushed my one and only... Figures huh, I suppose my season is drawing to a close, so hopefully the tuber packed on some size... It won't be growing much now! Grumbling

That stinks Sway. Hopefully it will have time to put on a few new leaves.

I think it was done for the season anyway, it's been 3 weeks since it put out a new leaf, it was just storing away more goodies for winter...
We had a round of 50 degree nights that really slowed stuff down, of course it's supposed to warm right back up, but even those 3 days will be enough to set some stuff back a lot, or simply trigger some to stop making new leaves...

55/53/57

Daytime highs on those days barely broke 70, and only the coolest of the 3 days was at all sunny... I was cold... If I'm cold, my plants are cold!

It spiked a new leaf today!

I guess the question isn't "why", but really it's "why am I surprised..."

It'll be sweet once this thing gets some size to it!

Here are a couple of pics of my S.vermitoxicus babies and you can see the stems of the mama plant in the first pic. Did I maybe send you a little tuber of that thing when I sent you other stuff last July, Sway?

Yes, you must have, also the quilted dreams Alocasia, it's been a rough couple of years... I've probably lost more information than I've retained...
I keep meaning to go through my old mails, I'm sure it's all there...
I hope I sent you some plants in return? *Blush*

Yep, I went back and found our t-mail exchange. Glad to see that baby survived.

I was going to get something back from you last fall, and we never got around to it. It was a busy time and I didn't have any leisure for more planting anyway.

Maybe this year . . . ya never know.

Yea, that's what I was thinking too...

I'm attempting to organize a post on the classified section of what I have, or will have available soon!

Since I don't even remember what all you sent I'll need to look back, but I'll be more than happy to send your end of the trade whenever you like, plus interest!

Sorry for the brain fart Sticking tongue out

Not your fault. We left it open and I didn't want any new plants coming by mail in July or August, anyway.
