I am working at a construction site and next door is this vine that is covering everything in sight. I am located in zone 9, south Louisiana. I wanted to know the name so I can make sure I never have this at my garden. It really is a monster. thanks

I would say Kudzu

Yep, Kudzu.
Every part of the Kudzu plant is usable for one thing or another. Some parts are edible (leaves, tips of vine, roots). You can dry the Kudzu leaves and make tea. If you're crafty you can make baskets using the Kudzu vines. Oh, and you can make jelly from the flowers...pretty in pink. Thumbs up

Or you can spray the heck out of it and wipe it off the face of the earth. Your choice. Thumbs up

Thanks for the input, I did not know that Kudzu was found in this area. I have seen it in s. Miss. and central parishes in La. It is covering a nice stand of bamboo.

thanks all for the replies.

Although this plant can create a lost city in a matter of a few years, there are only 2 pictures in our database. Could you add yours, John? Especially the leaves.

Kudzu Vine (Pueraria montana var. lobata)

Follow this link. Near the bottom, you'll see Upload A Photo. It will open your documents on your device. Choose Pictures, find the pictures you want to load, then follow the directions from there. Do this for each picture.

And here I am wondering if the 'T' stands alone as in 'Tib-o-do' or if we use our tongue and teeth to say 'THib-o-do'? Oh, I know I could look it up, but it's more fun to ask. Rolling on the floor laughing

Zencat has it right! The H is silent. Zencat my wife also has a friend that lives in Jackson, La. She has a stop over for bike riders. I had a cousin who had a camp in the hills of St. Francisville years ago and we spent several weekends there enjoying the scenery. Also the hummingbirds at the Pond Store in Miss. in that area was also a treat.

What a relief. None of you called it THIB A DOX. My DH and I both grew up "down the bayou", He was born and raised in Thibodaux and my folks moved us to Larose when I was 6.

John, a few weeks ago we were going through Chackbay on our way to see a friend in Choupic when we saw a stand of cattails covered in Kudzu. Seems it was on ATP that some one was asking where they could get seeds/plants. They instead got a couple dozen almost instantaneous DO NO PLANT. posts.

Thibodaux, Thibodaux, Thibodaux, Thibodaux, Thibodaux, Thibodaux, Thibodaux, Thibodaux! Saying it just MAKES you want to do a little jig. It's catchy. It makes you smile. Green Grin! Green Grin! Green Grin!

Outsiders have pronounced the name Thibodaux several ways but for the most part people get it right. It's an easy way to spot a tourist.
