I planted a lot of plants of "Creeping Phlox" in the front of my house. I realized that I had purchased 2 different 'varieties', one with a pine-needle type foliage, and the other with a I-don't-know-what type of foliage. The pine-needle foliage Creeping Phlox have done beautifully and I need to replace the other Phlox
with these, I just don't know what type they are called. Can anyone help ?

If you bring a 2" sample size of each one with you, when you go back to the nursery, they should be able to help you.

Rats! Any large nursery should be able to help you if you have samples to show them.

Might it be Phlox diverticulata? Also known as Wild Sweet william or Woodland Phlox?

I sent an Email to Bluestone Perrenials, which is where I purchased the Creeping Phlox, and perhaps they can help me identify which Creeping Phlox I bought - I need the one with the "pine needle/evergreen" type foliage. Wish me Luck !

No - that is not the Creeping Phlox that I have. The Creeping Phlox I have has "pine-needle/evergreen" type foliage. The Woodland Phlox does not have that type of leaves.

The pine needle type is Phlox subulata. There are many many varieties. But they all have the pine needle type leaves if they are Creeping Phlox. There are a few Phlox subulata varieties that have variegated leaves

Ok, thanks for the info. But the catalogs don't indicate that they are Phlox subulata.....they just list the Names of the varieties. I sent an email to the Nursery that mailed the plants to me in the Spring.
Perhaps they know which ones I ordered that had the pine needle type leaves. I hope so, coz I have
to buy more of them and I want to order the same matching plants.

You could list the names and maybe we could identify them from just the names. Emailing the company might give you a response but you may wait days for it.

In the future, always keep your receipt for just such a need! I cannot tell you how many times I refer back to mine for reference. I also take a picture of the plant with the tag when I get it.

Ya know Jen, you are right. I am an avid Iris grower (Addict!), and this year, I have kept every receipt for every Iris rhizome I have ordered and planted - and I ordered over 50 Iris rhizomes this year.
I don't know why I did not keep that Bluestone receipt. I could just kick myself over this !

Iris! Ha, I love them but I'm growing less and less. They grow too well for me. They take over!! Last year I got Iris borers. It really made it easier to cull!

Do you have a Bluestone online account? If you do you can actually look up your purchases that way.

Yes, I'm an Iris-Addict, and have created 2 Iris gardens this year and have sort of "over-bought" Iris rhizomes. Most of them are currently planted in pots, to be transplanted into the gardens. I hope I have enough room for all of them. Ugh !

Ok, I got an email reply from Bluestone --- the only Order they have on file for me is for::

Phlox "Sherwood Purple" which they say is a Stolernifera phlox.

So now I wonder where I got the evergreen type creeping phlox from ??? Now I'm totally confused

Here is another idea-next spring divide each of your pine-needle type into three or four sections, and plant them around. That way you know for sure they all match. Since you say they are doing well, they should be big enough to divide.
