For August, our challenge if you choose to play along, we will create a garden art ball. You may use any material, medium, etc. No rules except it must be a ball.

(Thanks to Robin for the ball idea and Sandi for starting this with her Moooosaics!)

Pike's Place in Seattle has pigs (http://seattle.metblogs.com/20...) and other cities have animals or objects. Each artist is given the job to let creativity free and do their own thing.

So that's what we'll do with garden art balls.

To get your mind thinking:

lady bug balls:

Teal Glazing ball with flowers

This isn't a contest, just a group event.....so take your time (or not!) Go ahead and post anytime...make as many as you want, in any size! Big Grin

Those lady bugs make me smile at the above link.

Also, the mosaics at the second link are amazing.

I was thinking flying pig too. crazy.

Those mosaics are fabulous, someone has too much time on their hands.

Got to have a lady bug in my yard. I have an extra bowling ball. Too much to chose from, I'll have to see what I have to play with out in the garage.

Here is a ball I did Jan. 2010. It has held up well in my friend's front yard; it is water spotted from the hard water here but not one single thing has fallen off.

It is a basic black blowling ball, painted red. I used GE II silicone for doors and windows as my "glue". I used coloring pages as my guide for the design; sadly I am not artistic but if you lay the stones out on the lines of the coloring page the design is very easy to transfer over to the ball.

Like that bowling ball, Lori! Fun!

Remember, these do not have to be large and you can make as many as you want. They also do not need to be mosaics. We will have a tutorial eventually on Mosaics (I've been told Big Grin ) but for now, just have fun playing! Or Google "how to mosaic" and you'll learn some how to's! Hurray!

I'm seeing little balls all over the beds in different colors, kind of like and Easter egg hunt. Bright shiny colored mirrors.

I think mostly what would help is if someone could tell us how to glue the tiles or whatever onto the ball. Does the grout stuff hold the tiles or just for the in between

Got bowling balls that I collected a year ago for mosaic work, still sitting here. Now is the time to get busy and try one. Have all the material, lots of glass globs too. Fun to see what everyone can do with this project. Sticking tongue out

Once I got very ambitious and hot glued clear round balls (marble size) to a gazing ball outside. Needless to say, I am still finding those little balls in my garden bed where I had it placed. Who knew that when it rained they would all fall off. Rolling on the floor laughing

Here is another link for the lady bug bowling balls http://www.associatedcontent.c....

And if you scroll down on this link, she tells all about adhesives for the mosiacs. http://www.the-artistic-garden... It seems like Liquid Nails and Rhino are at the top of the list.

Moving on from the bowling balls, Becky, would flower or succulent balls be another choice? http://www.topiaryartworks.com...

Any kind of ball at all, Debbie. I think we will have fun and learn from one another. Big Grin

A lot of craft stores have paper mache' balls which I love. BUT they are for under the patio in bowls etc because even with sealer, they don;t do well getting wet. Ask me how I know. Rolling on the floor laughing But, that being mentioned, I love a large clear glass bowl with colorful mosaic or painted or ??? balls stacked in it.
