Background history:

"Destined to See" is an unusual form, evergreen tetraploid introduced in 1998 by Larry Grace. Larry Grace hybridizes daylilies at Graceland Gardens in Newton, Alabama. For more information about his Daylily Gardens:
http://www.gracelandgardens.co...

Some interesting tidbits about Larry are mentioned on this blog thread:
http://47daylilies.blogspot.co...

This cultivar can be found in the ATP Plant Database:
Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Destined to See')

According to the AHS database, it is listed as an early to mid season bloomer, that has earned two awards: Award of Merit: 2007 and Honorable Mention: 2002. It is both pod and pollen fertile and currently has 74 registered children in the ATP database: http://garden.org/plants/paren...

Please join in, if you own this plant! We would love to know more! (I award an acorn for performance information posted on this thread.)

Also, please consider adding a "Local Report" to the ATP Plant Database!!! Thank you!

This plant is a new addition to my garden this year. It was purchased as a double fan, and they were quite small upon arrival. Although it did not arrive in time to get established to bloom this season, the fans have grown quite nicely and now have the look of mature size plants in just a few months. It is planted in full sun with no shade, so it seems to be able to take our hot SC summers well. Looking forward to blooms on it next year.

Thanks for the growth report, Regina! Thumbs up

I read in the database that it shows rust susceptibility. I had considered this one previously, but that discouraged me from trying it here where rust is an issue. I know gardens in the north don't have the rust issue like we do in Florida.

Does anyone in the deep south grow this beauty? If so, does it show rust?

It was so easy to love 'Destined to See' right from the start. Here it blooms late midseason (7/9) but I never did measure the height or count the blooms or branching since up here we just don't get the blooms that others get in warmer climates. A photo below does show the buds at six but often more come along. It isn't swift on expanding though I wish it were!

Destined to See blooms in June for my zone. I started with one fan last year and this year there are 4 fans. The buds I didn't count but the dead scapes are still there. I can check tomorrow. Mine is in full sun, no shade at any time.
It is a beauty and really stands out.
Great increaser.

Stats here, 19" scapes, 16 buds. Not sure on the 16 buds because the scapes are quite old and dried up.

Arlene - Thanks for your report! Love that last photo and the bud shots are priceless .... blooms yet to come!

DancingGenes - Appreciate the performance report. Yes! Please if you would ...check the scape for bud count, branching, and height of your scape! That information would be very helpful to anyone reading about this cultivar. Thank You!

I purchased Destined To See 3 years ago as 2 potted fans and has been in the same spot until i moved it this year after blooming to a larger spot to give it room to grow. It has always performed great for me and one i would never part with. I believe i bought this without seeing the bloom and thought i would take a chance.
I don't have a pic from this year uploaded but here is a nice one from last year.

Kevin - Beautiful photo! Looks like you get a lot of blooms with this cultivar. Did it multiply for you?

I have grown Destined to See about 5 yrs. It is a solid plant, multiplies at a normal pace. Adds at least 2 or 3 fans a year.
It blooms and reblooms for. I will always keep this one, it is a favorite of mine. I wished we had started these reports before the season was over and I could give more details.

On July 3rd, I went out as usual to talk a walk through my daylilies. Destined to See wowed me with 4 polys that day. Wish I had a better picture of them. They were turned too many different ways!

While the branching and bud count (3-way branching, average of 12 buds) are not great, it is probably going to stay in my garden for a long time. Maybe that will get better. I got this from a friend in 2013 and am sure that I got more than a double fan, but it is now up to 12 fans. Not bad, I'd say!

I have had Destined to See for about 3 years. It has been slow to increase, and has low branching and bud count, 2-way, 10 buds, but it is planted near the woods and does not get enough sun. It is so beautiful, I don't think I will ever get rid of it. I have a new bed planned, so I can move DTS and some others into full sun. (Just filled out a Local Report on this one. It was quick and easy!)

Normally Destined To See has taller scapes in my garden but this year scapes were only 18" with a l0 bud count. It is slow to increase. It is pod and pollen fertile but pods are difficult for me. I still love it despite its faults and plan on keeping it. I went out today to measure scapes and found a rebloom scape, so that is a bonus Thumbs up

Teresa - You (AND ANY ATP MEMBER) can post to this thread to update or add more information at ANY time. (Now, next week, next year, two years later, etc.) If you remember, maybe next year you can take measurements and post here again with that info and any additional comments!

Vickie - 4 polys in a single day!!! WOW! That is awesome! Loved the photo of them! Lovey dubby Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up Also should go into plant database!

Jessie - What a gorgeous photo! Please consider adding it to the Plant Database. And please ... if you move it, report back here next year on this thread if the change in location helped.

Cindy - Another amazing photo (database addition, please?)! Congrats on the rebloom! Hurray! Hurray!

Destined to See has been in the garden for a long time. The first images of it on this computer date back to 2007, but I think it's been here longer than that. The color and form are appealing. Bloom time is relatively short in comparison to others in the garden - maybe 3 weeks tops.

First pic was taken in 2007, 2nd in 2009.

I'm more apt to add any reports I have this winter when I'm less busy. But do want to say that Destined to See did really well this year. I potted it up in a better potting mixture than what it was in originally and it took off. Bloomed for a long time and had much better looking blooms then in years past. It's a four year old clump that gave me 6 scapes. Love it.

Destined to See has been here in my zone 4 garden since 2006, first bloomed in '07. The original 2 fans have multiplied extremely well and has been divided into 3 med to large clumps....which need dividing again. Rolling my eyes. The area it is planted in has gained more shade over the years and it still continues to perform the same way it did in more sun. Here DTS has always had top branching, a simple "Y" and about 8 -12 buds., blooms for 3 to 4 weeks, and frequently polys. A short plant for the front of the bed, blooms have clean color, crisp near white with a blue violet eye, more blue some days, others more violet. Can't think of any time I've seen it have a problem opening even with our cool night temps that can be in the low 50's during peak bloom. One of my favorites and a favorite of many visitors.

Bloom image from last year, and an early season shot of one of the three clumps also from last year.
