Getting a jump start on the August Photos & Chat thread, had to use a July bloom though, from Zuzu's garden. Rolling my eyes.
I have several roses putting out fresh leaves, our weird cooler weather has produced some rust and aggravated the black spot so I have been trying to strip the leaves to keep things relatively clean. I know,

Oh, cool! A new month, a new thread. Here are some photos I took yesterday:

Inner Wheel

Prairie Star

This is a rose Vintage Gardens calls La Parisienne, but it isn't. Such a shame: I can't even add it to the database because I don't know the real name. Various people have posted photos of this rose on the HMF page for La Parisienne, but that seems silly. The real La Parisienne is orange-red.

This is the big fat bloom on Lady of Megginch, an Austin rose new to my garden:

Who's that first beautiful bloom?

All my roses are just sitting there pretty much like bumps on logs. It's been too hot to go out & deadhead (90+ every day.. which is murder here at 6100ft!). I try to get out after it cools down in the evening, but it's not getting cool until like 9-10pm! And I'm tired of being eaten alive by skeeters.

Toni, all her photos are labeled, that's Inner Wheel.

I have never heard of Lady of Megginch, then again, I have not kept up with the latest Austin Roses. The desription and other images on HMF are lovely, what a fat full bloom! A real nice comment from a member too.

I've now bought 96 roses from Cliff's going-out-of-business sale. Too bad I can't find that almond-flavored champagne anymore, Sue. I feel a celebration coming up very soon, as soon as I hit the 100 mark.

That's a good link, Toni, but the problem is that the champagne is only $7.99, but shipping and handling will add another $20 to the price. I actually found it on the BevMo Website too, but I didn't find it in the store when Sue and I went there the other day.

I just remembered where I bought my last bottle of almond champagne, at Trader Joe's! So I'll check next time I am there.

Here's the first bloom on my Koko Loco. It was a lot prettier yesterday, more of a classic hybrid tea bloom, but I didn't take the photo until today.

Palatine won't be taking orders until September 1st, but they're already updating their website and adding new roses. I think I found one Toni will love:

Oooh, yum! I haven't been looking too hard at the prospective new ordering yet.. I'll start to make my list after the 15th or so. Smiling :) :)

I think you'll like Koko Loko. She's been one of the best bloomers I've got this year.. she's ALWAYS got a few blossoms on her! But she's sooooo short!! Mine's less than a foot tall :(.

My sister gets this Chocovino from World Market that she absolutely loves and gives as gifts -- says it's a combination of "Dutch chocolate and fine red wine". She highly recommends it.

Can't believe its August already...boo-huu-huuu! Sad

Few new pics from my place.
Porch Kitties.
Gremlin and Miss Kitty have been camped out on the kitchen porch all summer.
They are there everyday but sometimes alternate positions by laying in the flower beds.

Sue, it's nice to see your Dahlia Rose. Mine hasn't bloomed once this entire season. This past winter was very rough, and the weather did a number on the plant. Mine is a young specimen, and is still quite small as I got it from Sequoia just as they were closing the business after Ralph turned 100. Here's a photo of mine when it was in bloom last year.

Hi Mike! I wish that it was mine and had been smart enough to order it from Sequoia too before they closed. I shot that photo in Zuzu's garden. Such a unique bloom.
