I've admired the ferny foliage for a number of years... I finally caught a (tiny) flower on the subject...

I don't know what it is, but it grows around here too. I'd also like to give it a name.

I looked at both Gaura lindheimeri and Oenothera filipes... before posting these pictures....

The leaves don't match... And the flowers on my plant are positively tiny...

Will take additional pictures of the leaves....

My best guess is going to be one of the following
Oenothera simulans = Gaura angustifolia
Oenothera gaura = Gaura biennis
Oenothera xenogaura = Gaura drummondii

The leaves on Oenothera suffrutescens seem close, but the colours and flower shape/size seem way different....
The leaves on Oenothera sinuosa seem close too... and the flowers are the right colour... but I can't find a size referent.

The flowers seem too large on this page... but the leaves seem right.

I'd considered guara / oenonthra filipes... This link shows the bloom spot on, but I can't find a match on the leaf.

I've been looking at this. I have Gaura on my property and I only have to assume it is the Biennial species because that is what is listed in the seed mix. They are quite difficult to identify.

The Scarlet Gaura photos (Oenothera suffrutescens) I looked at have smooth edges. Ex:
http://www.saskwildflower.ca/O...

The Oenothera xenogaura that Horntoad mentioned, looks closer, in my opinion. If this is what it is, you can be the first to add the photo to this plant.
Sweet Gaura (Oenothera xenogaura)

About flower colour, this can vary quite a bit. Even from early to late in the day. Photos are so hard to compare against for size. And looking through the internet can bring challenges because of misidentifications.

@flaflwgrl
Yup... I wuz lookin at yer pics in the back...

There's a similarity...
Wonder if you could get a clearer pic of the leaves, when you get a chance?

Right now.... The leaves on sinuosa seem the closest.... With your flowers coming in as closest match on the bloom front...

Reckon that the people that name these things go by the flowers, more than the leaves.

I checked Fla plant atlas pics... Again, a poor representation of the foliage...

Edit:
I guess this is sorta close...

The ones I took the photos of are on our other property & we aren't there right now. I'm sure we have the same here too but we had the bush hog in a couple weeks ago so that's a no go. There are some down on the easement that the county hasn't mowed yet. I will have to check & see if they are the same but if they are I can't take a photo right now as the sun is just going to make it impossible. I will have to try when it clouds over - IF it clouds over - or wait until late, late afternoon.
Still trying to edit this photo to make the leaves more viewable.

This is the best I can do. I can't seem to make it enlarge. If someone can take this photo & enlarge it then by all means please do so.
