In 1985, I moved to a home in Centerville, OH (suburb of Dayton, OH) that had a very large clump of this plant. First thing I did was to rip it all out, as it was taking a lot of space.

From that point on, I never wanted to have it in the ground. It grows to a large clump (if not controlled). The neighbor, who lives across the street where I took the photos, has 3 different clumps of it and two of them reseeded themselves. I'm hoping the wind doesn't send seeds across the street.

The color is nice, the leaves are soft and nice to touch, but I don't want it growing unless I can grow it in a container and then deadhead the blooms before they go to seed.

I got a small clump of this at a plant swap earlier this year. I fell in love with the soft leaves, but I kept it in a little pot over the summer because I remembered, in the back of my head, that there was something to be wary of with lamb's ears and I assumed it might have invasive tendencies. I'll probably still keep mine, but I'll also probably keep it in a small pot so that it doesn't have room to grown big (hopefully that will discourage flowering--it definitely didn't flower this year, although it did get a little bigger).

Right now it's in a pot that's about 4-5", I think.

It looks healthy. You could probably put it into a 16 inch container and just make sure you don't let it go to seed. I haven't grown it into a container yet, but if and when I do, that's what I'll do. It is a great bee plant. Thumbs up

You could add your pic to the Lambs' Ears (Stachys byzantina) database to earn an acorn.
