I received a daylily order from a member on ATP and it is fabulous. I'm hard to impress but the fans and roots on these plants are so much better than ones I have received from daylily gardens. Is there a place we could recommend these people so others what know how fabulous they are? I know there is a place for nurseries but we have some fantastic members selling here as well.

Maybe a "tip" or short article about what a great vendor he or she is?

Photos make the articles popular, I think, and pictures of what you received would speak clearly.

Since vendors do NOT pay Dav and Trish to be promoted here, we are free to praise people and companies in posts or articles.

I know there is a place where you can recommend vendors - I just can't find it right now *Blush*

Hetty, were you thinking of the Green Pages?

We can review vendors, or click a button that adds one to the number of recommendations.

I seem to recall some suggestion or rule about not giving BAD reviews. I might be wrong about that - maybe that was about giving bad reviews for seed trading??

I have to plead guilty (or boast) that I suggested "Green Pages", after the phone-book "Yellow Pages". Trish liked the name!

I know about the green pages but that is for vendors. This would be for ATP members selling here on ATP, just a bit different. @Dave might have a suggestion.

Very true.

Mmm, you could start a thread in the Classifieds and Group Buys forum,
like "ATP members I love to buy from"
http://garden.org/forums/view/...

But I think you're smart to see what Dave suggests.

I agree with Hetty. If they are selling plants that would make them a vendor.

To me a vendor is someone who is a business. Someone selling off fans after dividing is different to me.

I agree with Hetty and Lynn -- a seller is a seller, hence a vendor. The Green Pages would seem to be an appropriate place to post a good review.

I've left recommendations for a few ATP members that I've purchased from who actually have business names but I've Also purchased from a few individual members who've placed ads on the Classified Forum who don't have business names. I didn't think about adding the individual user names to the Green Pages but I will leave recommendations for them also if it's agreed that's how it should be done. The following are a few members that I've made purchases from:

Bill at Caladium Bulbs 4 Less
Dr.Dawg (Ken) has a little cottage business Tropical Plants & More
SRQHoya's (Joni) has been selling Hoya cuttings and plants for a long time:
The Whitinger Family: Green Grin!
Also a Whitinger and although I haven't purchased from Jon yet, he sells his

But, there are some people that will sell, cuttings, seeds, plants, etc. that are not "in the business". That is where I think this thread started from...

We all expect purchases to be sent promptly, packaged properly, and of good size and health. If the seller meets or exceeds your expectations, that is valuable information to share with the community. If money is changing hands, I see no difference between whether the vendor is a private seller or a licensed business. Good vendors get recommendations, not-so-good vendors not so much. Buyer beware.

But there is a difference between a "vendor" and a "member" that is willing to "sell" what they have. In my mind a "vendor" is someone that is in the business of selling. Ex. A merchant...One who is "in the business" of producing and selling merchandise.

A "member" selling, to me means someone that is not "in the business" of selling, but will sell when requested to do so....ie: isn't necessarily "licensed" as a business.

Maybe we need a 'none vendor seller' area to give recommendations?

Tara, I guess I am still not clear on what the difference is in your mind? Is it the actual business license? Lots of folks buy/sell things on the internet without a formal business. If they are doing it on a fairly regular basis, I would guess positive feedback would benefit them, and also their potential customers. I just don't see any harm in including private sellers in the Green Page recommendations. Perhaps Lynn is on to something with a separate category, although who (if anyone) is checking the business credentials of current Green Page vendors?
