Celebrating Gardening: 2015
there is a giant music festival going on in this small town this weekend.......
I had to leave town for about 6 hours yesterday and came home in the dark..

First of all someone tried to pee on my tree and it was a female last night. Caught her in the act and told her to leave...

but this morning was a SHOCK

My red maple tree was all trimmed......nicely but still..............
all my lilies were tied up where I used fencing......they used string instead
they weeded all the flower beds and that included all the small lilies that had started....... GONE
they moved all my other lily pots to a new location and clipped off all the trumpets to a short length.....

very invasive. I have a good idea that this was something my jerk of a neighbour did but did not catch them in the act

so here I go again..........all the labels for all the lilies are taken and thrown out..........

geeze some people

this goes on until later Sunday...........

enough already......

how to do lilies do if they are cut way back?? I thought they need at least 1/3 of the plant left.....
We are talking hours to do all this and hundreds of lilies are cut way back........
on top of the windstorm that ruined a lot of lily beds the other week and now this I am about ready to give up on my lilies all together
not sure how the lilies will take to all this at all.........

Wow, I don't know what to say, I'm speechless! Confused

The cut lilies will be ok, maybe just a bit smaller next year.

I don't understand. Someone invaded your yard and did all that damage/work. I mean weeding is one thing, but taking labels and cutting lilies?? It almost sounds like deranged person who doesn't know helpful from destructive. How absolutely weird. Do they come back -- the perpatrators? I would be tempted to rent/buy a camera that takes pics every few minutes and find out for sure who is doing it.

I would ask the neighbors what happened if they saw anything. It's a bit weird to say the least. Maybe a neighbor thought they were helping even though I agree that they have no business going in your yard and doing all that without permission. The lilies will be fine next year.

they did lots of things...........big time..........

I have almost had enough though........

a lot of damaged plants prematurely this year.........
will see how much comes back normally next year or it might take 2 years not sure...

will put up a sign no trespassing and then also a camera on the roof here too...........
this is crazy
who pulls out signs and trims hundreds of lilies almost to the ground

So sorry Pat. It's really hard to understand why some people feel the need to destroy things. Some people are just sick I guess. As late as it is, I don't think it will set the lilies back much. I am almost ready to divide mine now since much of the foliage has died back. Getting the markers all right again will be a job. Glad you are getting a camera on the roof.

Well my lilies are still really green............does that matter?? None of the lilies in the back beds were touched but these were the ones that got damaged, some of them by the windstorm............
all those markers and such...........Makes this one heck of a job next year to figure out again..........
The biggest survivor of all these is the trumpets in the back..........and the trumpets in the pots and a lot of Regale..........in Pots......
did not touch any of the trumpet types.......for some odd reason

That is heart breaking!
Vandalism in gardens is every bit as offensive as theft or arson.
Our education systems need to include gardening in the curriculum.

Hopefully there will not be another music festival anytime soon. I have been fortunate and only had a few pieces of garden art and a shovel someone walked off with. All happened on nights there was a concert in the park near me. I really think a lot of them will bloom next year.

Sorry to hear this and like others I hope (and think) that you will have a good show from your lilies next year in spite of this.

The next music festival is next year at the exact same time....... Happens every year..........
so NOT sure if this will happen again next year..........
Did not happen last year but there was not near as many lilies planted here........at that time

A lot of the seedlings or sprouts besides the parent bulb are all gone too..........

frustrating and really gotta wander if this is all worth the effort.....

I still have to put mulch over the lilies before the winter time and so far only one plant has turned brown..........all the rest are green green......
but the tree next door is already turning color for fall so this makes no sense.........
last year at this time most of the lilies were cut back but the Orientals that were late........

can try to hope for the best.........
if anything else and if nothing else I will have nice trumpets next year
and the Odd part is they did not touch any of the lilies in pots including Kursha Maya....... and truly that is one lily that has seen it all here this year.........
