Wow, what a show! Gary and I sat on the front porch watching all the trees dancing away. All the clouds were racing north, but the trees were being blown every which way. Really swirly. We have tons of branches and debris all over our yard and driveway. On the plus side, it kind of cleaned out a lot of dead stuff. On the negative side, it also knocked down one end of my grape trellis - broke the support right at the ground. We propped it up temporarily until after harvest and leaf fall, then plan to replace the whole trellis -- all the supports are showing signs of weakness, and a few are missing from previous damage.

It's good here and it was an amazing storm. The lake had giant waves all coming up out of the south. The power has been off here for more than 24 hours!!

We were out for 12 hours - 1 pm to 1 am. I was glad to still have my collection of oil lamps, I'd recently contemplated ditching them. We lit all of them, played cribbage in the soft glow, and ate all the ice cream in the freezer.

We got some pretty good gusts over here, but nothing like the west side. I do have a lot of branches to clean up in the yard. It also blow the smoke away so I can get back out in the yard! It sure does feel like fall the last few days.

Glad we took the brunt of the wind over here - no fires to fan up. Looks like your fires are slowly getting contained. That fire map I've been watching has less and less red dots every day. Yahoo.

I lost power all day, and a few trees blew down - one at work and one big one across a major road (it had been chainsawed flush with the sidewalk before I saw it).

Where I live, tree limbs and rose bushes thrashed around, and a bamboo blew almost horizontally, but nothing broke or blew away. My cat, on the other hand, became anxious and was very displeased that I would allow such high winds to occur.

I'm glad I chopped down / harvested / deadheaded most of my Lavatera before the wind storm, or they would have reseeded even more than they have already. Now I have many ounces of seeds - maybe a cup full! And since I got them before the fall rains turned their pods moldy, they might even remain viable for a few years.

They were sold by Hirt's Nursery as microscopic plants, said to be Lavatera thuringiaca var 'Barnsley' , but they weren't.
