I thought I'd start a new thread for the month of September since no one has done so yet. Hope y'all don't mind.

A few pic's from my backyard today.

This Limpkin was walking in the water, then ducking under to find snails? to eat. He finally came out of the water and his legs were covered in algae and muck.

Thanks for re-directing me to the new thread, Christine. And thanks Lin for the new thread.

Still didn't get the tripod to work, and the camera is having focus issues, too. But I did get a couple of fuzzy shots of my juvenile cardinals at the feeder. A male and a female, just about fully into adult colors.

Thanks for the new thread LIn. The new month seems to have slipped all our minds. Glad you're on the ball. That Jay is gorgeous!!! You know I always love the Titmice.
Really nice photos of the Limpkin.

Christine, we have tons of Blue Jays here; I've only seen a few seem with the molting/bald heads.

Elaine, I love the Cardinals and those juvie's are just too cute! I like that feeder in your second photo! My DH built me a ground feeder years ago, four cedar legs and a square frame top that he stapled some sort of screening to. It was a great feeder, it kept the seed dry and a lot of birds used it. I don't know what ever happened to that feeder, probably got lost in the move four years ago ... I think need to get him to make me another one!

Ann, thank you! The Limpkin is a new one for me, had never seen one until a few weeks back! I read that their main diet ingredient is apple snails so I'm assuming that's what they are finding along the waters edge. I didn't know until today that they dunk their heads under the water like that to find food. Green Grin!

The Tufted Titmice are my favorites, too. They're very small, shy and quick, Becky. I think if I didn't have this birdfeeder right outside my window, I'd never see them either. I'd never seen one until I put it up.

But they come to my birdfeeder all year 'round, so I'd be very surprised if they aren't around your area, too.

I need to wake up before I start posting. I posted this in the August thread before I realized what I had done! Okay, so the folks at the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail are having some fun this morning on Facebook. They made a chart where you can figure out what your "bird name" would be. Open the picture to make it bigger so you can read it. I would be a Chartreuse Bellied Chimichanga Heron. Rolling on the floor laughing Sounds pretty awesome!

Hmm, a Muffin Hawk doesn't sound too fierce, I'm thinking.

Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing those are funny!

How appropriate that i would be a hummingbird... A lilac cheeked popcorn hummingbird! Hilarious!

Speaking of hummingbirds, I cannot even begin to count how many are here right now! Blinking I looked out this morning to check the level on the feeders and I couldn't believe my eyes! There were so many hummingbirds that they were doubled up on all five of the feeders, plus swarming for a chance in line and perched about on the fence, etc! Yikes. I went right to making more nectar. Hilarious!

I'm embarrassed by the condition of the fencing... *Blush* looks like I'll be painting this fall!

Great shot Christine. Oh how I'd love to see so many hummers in my yard at the same time! LOL, regarding the fence ... looks good to me but I like rustic so if it were mine I'd probably never paint it. Smiling

Might be a flock of hummers migrating through your area, if you don't usually see so many at once. That's a lot of little birdies!

I think they are starting to have some pretty cool nights up in the northern tier about now.

Look at all those hummingbirds! Wow!

I managed some bird photos in between butterfly photos today. I was actually inside rehydrating when I walked by our sliding glass door and the Red-Shouldered Hawk was sitting right outside. I yelled, "Hawk!" And then told everyone not to look at it (because they totally know) as I sidled over to the couch to grab my camera. I tried looking the other way and aiming the camera up but the bird turned its head as I took the picture and them flew away. At least I got one shot!

This morning, there was a group of these extremely loud black birds in my neighbor's yard. One had something in its mouth. I know I take awful photos but if anyone thinks they know what they are, give me a heads up. They were smaller than the hawk, but not by too much. And they seem to travel in a group and did I mention they were really loud!?
