Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Old King Cole')

I have Old King Cole in my garden. Because of its bi-color, it really attracts your attention. For me it isn't a fast multiplier, but I have it in partial shade. I think next year I'm going to try getting seeds from it. Have to decide who to cross it with. This one is definitely a keeper in my opinion. Here is this years picture of Old King Cole.

I have had Old King Cole for 10 years. The first couple of years that I had it, it was not a very good cold morning opener. That has changed since it has become more established in my garden. This year it had 36" scapes (it is registered as 30") and 12 buds. It is very fertile and sets pods like crazy and setting a lot of pods doesn't seem to affect next years blooms. I have it growing in full sun and it increases very well for me.

Just an interesting old favorite bi-tone with blossoms well above the foliage. My clump has a range of branching 2 way to 4 and bud count averaging 13. Then I have a year old division with 5 way branching and 30 buds. It stopped blooming 9/3/15. No problem with it increasing. I would say it likes being divided.

I got Old King Cole in August so am no help yet in giving information. Seeing what has already been posted I'm excited to see what it does here.

The color can be quite striking and it is quite vigorous here. However, a reluctance to open is not just an occasional characteristic; it is the chief flaw of this cultivar.

This is an older CV but a good garden plant. The bi-tone is striking and stands out in the garden. I have grown it for 2 seasons. Here, it reached 30" inches, just shy of the registered height and had a bud count of 16 with 4 way branching, really good for a 2 year old CV. It blooms into August giving a lengthy bloom period. It is not one of those that takes a long time to settle in. I recommend this plant for the north
