Hi. My name is Leslie and I'm a hemhead.

OMG. I am KILLING myself in 95* heat daily trying to rework my daylily beds. I've done the charts to know where I want to plant what. The beds are stuffed full and YET...I still look at the Lily Auction and Jeff Rowe's sales on FB every night to see what's been posted that day. I've spent my fall (don't tell DH) budget and I'm STILL LOOKING!!!!

Thank Heaven I'm doing a big trade with a friend so my fix is good for awhile....except that I've got to change the charts and maybe move some I've just planted so the tall ones are in the back. AAAARRRRRGGGG.

Can I get a "me too"? LOL. Thanks for listening.

Guess I certainly qualify as a daylily addict, but hey I don't drink or smoke this is my one vice and it makes our yard look good. That is my story and I am sticking to it! I just won't tell you how many are already here and there are a few more on their way. Hilarious! Lovey dubby Angel

Forgot to add I am waiting for the temps to cool down as it is to hot here to plant it is close to 90 degrees.

Oh, Leslie, I feel your pain! Here, we are "downsizing". What I have now come to understand is that we are moving out daylilies only to move others in. I sold most of one bed last year and completely did away with that bed. What a wonderful feeling it was to be making real progress in our "downsizing" attempt! We have had a major backslide in the past two weeks. One of our daylily club members' garden has been attacked by deer. She decided it was time to downsize big time and only keep a small number which will be moved inside a fenced area. She offered us and one other member any that we wanted. We dug 20+ clumps a couple of weeks ago in the blazing sun to bring here. Then this week we bought 30+ clumps from someone who is moving out of state and is selling all of her clumps for $10 each. Last night David and I made a second list of about 50 more clumps that we are interested in. We have not heard from her yet, so we do not know how many of those are still available. Give you one guess where these daylilies are going. They are going into that bed that was dissolved. David hauled in a load of composted horse manure yesterday morning and has wheel barrowed it over to this bed. He made another trip to Lowe's to get a load of bagged topsoil. This "new and improved" bed is now ready for planting which I will do tomorrow. I just hope that at least half of that last list of 50 is already sold. Just when I thought I had a handle on this daylily addiction, it has come back to whip me.

I have been going over to the daylily farm where i buy most of mine and helping out by digging up clumps for moving to another bed to make room for seedlings. In the last 2 weeks i bought home 14 new starts and my beds are pretty full. They are paying me in plants for my labor so tomorrow i am at it again because i simply cannot pass up on this deal and they really need my help and i really need those new daylily cultivars.
I only have 160 plants right now so if i have to i will sink some pots in the ground until spring when i can expand the big bed even bigger.
Thing is what do i do for a good fix next year. I may just have to make it a real part time job.
Put ad in paper will work for my addiction. You are not alone so take comfort from that.

I agree with all of you!

I was a 'recreational user' (only 2 DL's) until this last Spring, but since than it has become a full blown addiction...
I moved most of my other plants out, I suddenly notice that other people in my neighborhood have DL's in their front yard (looking at the size of the clumps they probably have been there for years..)... I even know the names of those cultivars! And if I don't I hurry home to look them up.. Rolling my eyes.

I ordered about 65 DL's from various nurseries, bought seeds on the LA, germinated about 170 (which I have NO idea where to put.. ) and still I find myself browsing the LA seed section every night before I go to bed... and than I dream about DL's! Lovey dubby

I'm looking at my mothers garden and planning to put DL's there... Hilarious!
And my latest relapse: A lady I met at a social gathering this week is probably going to be my next best friend: as she is older and can't take care of her garden anymore ( 9 x 20 meters) she is looking for someone who likes to garden and make it 'pretty'... Whistling

Yes, I think I am hemhead too. This is the wrong place to find a support group, Leslie. We just support buying more lol. Yes, I look on the LA and just had to buy a few from Michele. I didn't need a one, but some were going pretty low sooooo.

Doris, my hubby just said yesterday while carrying in a box from the mail carrier.. I thought you were downsizing. Famous last words. I did sell several older clumps but then I had empty spaces!

Kinda scary because this season I have been on the Iris forum and those people are so nice and have such beauties too. I have 30+ newer iris to go in too!

Teresa, I hear you about the iris, Hilarious! I bought a dozen new iris last year and just planted a dozen more a couple of weeks ago. Now as to daylilies, I really do need to downsize because we have planns to move north, which is a zone colder, and I know a lot of what I currently have will not do very well in that zone. I have already sold 5, not much but it is a start.

I'm right there with all of you! My goal this year was to downsize. Ha! I joined two daylily clubs this year. Of course, what are the door prizes??? Daylilies! I gave some of my daylilies to coworkers, but like others on this thread, there were empty spots that needed to be filled. nodding

I started the year with about 230 daylilies and am now up to 245 Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Although I have never placed an internet order for daylilies or ordered on the LA, my husband and I have both placed our first internet orders for other things this past week. I'm thinking daylilies won't be too far behind.

My name is Angie and I am a daylily addict! There. I've said it. I posted a photo of my DL pot ghetto somewhere on this forum, only to learn
that mine is a pathetic thing compared to other people's. However, between the DLs and the irises I've ordered, they will soon be covering my
driveway, waiting on new beds to reside in.

No cures here, just enabling!

Teresa, I have iris in pots that were delivered last fall. I thought they would be planted by now. I have two orders that have come in the past three weeks that are still not planted. I honestly do not know where I will plant all of these. I keep thinking a light will come on, but not yet! At least I need to get the roots in dirt until that happens. Yes, I need a support group but we are all enablers here!

Stan, when we moved to SC land for the DL was a very high priority! I rejected more than one place for lack of it.

Teresa, you could use your new long row for the doubles you're coming to love. Thumbs up

Mike, I'm feeling stupid. What is *G?

I'm off to the library to get audio books to listen to while I redo the beds.
Have a good day everyone.
