My name is Tim and I'm a Semp-aholic. It started when I saw a single potted semp at a friend's house. It was just one widely spread out plant. I thought it looked cool and decided to make a small ring of rocks and picked up my one-and-only-ever-to-have semp to place inside the circle. Return trips were made to the same and other nurseries and the circle of rocks was widened to accommodate the new arrivals. An additional tier was installed... and then another. Yet another is under construction as I type. Along the way I discovered internet semp dealers. Yesterday I made a trip over to Perennial Obsessions just to "look around". You can all guess how that turned out. I have ample space and rocks to extend this rockery and there appears to be no end in sight. Where does it all end? Help me!

to ATP! I bet you got the name of this site from PO. Yep, that's how it starts all right. I'm working on a new raised bed now to hold my new semp acquisitions. Show us you beds if you have time. This is a wonderful place to learn. Again

@tcstoehr if by 'help' you mean help you to get MORE semps - you're in the right place!! 3 years ago I joined ATP to see how I can keep my 10 or so semps from rotting in Seattle's winter rains - now I have over 325 cultivars and still counting!

Tim, you can end it at this point if you decide to move to a place with no yard like I did afterwards:

Yes Tim, move to a place with no yard. Then you can fill your balconies with containers of semps.

Hope he can do some guard duty...all my container plantings are out there looking way too vulnerable to any critter thirsty for moisture. Frog's name is Lil Waldy.

Point in time of the much needed photo was when I had already mentioned the frog to Connie, Patty and Lynn and needed to substantiate my claims that I was being terrorized by a killer frog on my ... second floor balcony...

Welcome to the Forum of the Doomed Tim. At least you live in a good zone for semps. I'm planting new babies knowing half may not make it through the winter here in zone 5. Four new raised beds are now on the way here in the mail, plus a big one in the basement. All waiting for me to put them together and figure out what I need to order to amend the soil. Stilll have 3 bags of gravel in the driveway, but think I will need to get a load of sand and gravel mix dumped in the driveway once those are used up. Good thing I don't have a car that needs to park in that drive.

Oh Susan, do I know what that is like, having a truck load of compost in our driveway.
Your semps should love your zone 5 winters, remember they are alpine plants. When does your freezing weather usually arrive? Do you get snow cover?
