OK, it's that time of year again for all of us to "fess up", and admit to each other....and ourselves...just how far around the bend we are, about our 'favorite flower" !

I had said that I was only going to add "about 40-50" this year, and , I slipped *Blush* , I "backslid....very badly" *Blush* Sticking tongue out .
here's the numbers.....and my excuses!
cultivars planted total 331
replacements for losses 42
iris for "test plants" 52

And since 'replacements' don't REALLY count, we can subtract THOSE ! And, "test plants" are only bought when I'm SURE (sort of sure, anyway !) that I ALREADY grow that cultivar, as a noid....so THEY don't count, either Sticking tongue out .....so we'll subtract THOSE as well. And , included in those acquired this year, there are 9 NOIDs.......which may, or may NOT, be something I already grow, and , being a very fair minded person, I'm willing to not only subtract just HALF that number, but to go the extra mile, and subtract five..now, that's being very fair, right Rolling my eyes. !
So, after the math is done.....I'm down to a some what more reasonable number .....232 ! I tip my hat to you.

However if the test plants turn out to not be a match, then you will have to add them to your totals for next year. Smiling Hilarious!

I was a really, really good boy this year. My total new acquisitions are (get this) 70! What's more, I have eliminated several from my list, but haven't counted those up yet. Will have to do that, but I'm guessing I have eliminated around 10 cultivars by my choice, and then there were 3 eliminated by mother nature, but I replace one of those.

No Paddy Wagon for me this year! Rolling on the floor laughing

We didn't exactly 'cut back', but some of our plants went to the iris club sale. However, next year is 'show' year, not sale year.

Count for 2015 including for-postage, trades, and buys is 127. In my defense, about 20 are intended for my sister's memory bed when she gets her new house. *Blush*

I'm just saying I need something more then the paddy wagon. Rolling on the floor laughing I think I need white padded walls and a white jacket. I purchased, swapped, traded for and replaced a total of 207. For a grand total I believe of 412. Added lots of Louisiana and Japanese iris this year to my collection of tall beards.

You are a crazy girl, Jen!!!!! Lovey dubby My totals are much lower only adding 55 this year. Limited space has me hogtied. They are all lovely and after the next spring bloom time, I plan to get rid of several old ones to make room for more new ones!

By any reckoning, I'm a rank amateur in the collection department compared to you guys!! However -- since I was determined to hold new acquisitions down to 15 or 20 this year, I was a total failure as I managed to buy/swap/acquire more than 150 new cultivars: bringing my total to slightly over 500 different Irises. I am insane. I am totally and completely insane. nodding Green Grin!

I added 42 different named irises. with some of those there were 5 or 6. Some have already added increases also, So including increases, the number of each included in shipment, I got about 75 total this year.

I'll have to get an exact total. I potted up well over 200 bearded, but some made it directly into the ground, and they're a few more sitting on the kitchen counter that I need to plant... There were a few non-bearded as well, if we're adding those to the totals. I went way over what I'd promised myself. I was going to keep it between 50 and 75.. Rolling on the floor laughing

I am still waiting for one last package. All of the rest of my purchases from commercial gardens and auction plus gifts so far total 112. Next year I am hoping to do some trading. I previously had about 68.

Richard, you count cultivars, not rhizomes or fans. If you bought 10 rhizomes of the same kind it counts as 1. Seedlings that you raise don't count either, as you may not keep most of them. Smiling

My 80+ were only the bought ones. Maybe it is more like 160+ I dunno. I think I waited too long to do La. Iris this year. I will save that list for next year. Those have to be the ones that will work in zone 5.

I got blue and yellow iris seeds from China. I think the yellow might be those invasive ones, but probably not in Maine on dry, in-town land - just can't share them.
