I am just curious about the Candy Series. I know they are not the latest ones but how many of you are still growing a few? Which ones do you think are good garden plants.

I only have Strawberry and Custard Candy. They are a bit short for my taste but do well here. Please add your input. I might collect a few more if I can get a good report on which are the best ones!

I started collecting the Candy Daylilies by Stamile this summer. So far have about 10. Have them co mingled rather then in separate bed. To me they are very happy flowers.

I have Custard Candy and I had Exotic Candy until recently. Exotic Candy is a bit taller and performed well. I only gave up it due to space.

Years ago when I was setting up the display garden I had a "Candy" bed, I think just about everyone did back then. The ones I can remember growing were...Strawberry, Raspberry, Rainbow, Blackberry, Orchid, Wineberry, Exotic, Custard, Awesome, Elegant and Huckleberry, there may have been one or two others. Elegant Candy is still here as is Huckleberry Candy, both were the best performers for me. Awesome Candy was also very good and I loved the contrast of the bright yellow and red eye. Lost the huge clump 3 years ago I think it was when we had a terrible winter with little snow and very cold temps. I have images of all the ones I grew, the older film images need to be scanned, a good project for the winter months. The one I liked least for being short, color wasn't appealing to me, slow increase and just not being a happy daylily here was Blackberry Candy. It never did well and I think it eventually went over the fence to the compost pile. The others were donated to club sales or placed in the sales row for visitors.

I have Custard, Strawberry and Raspberry, and love them. I find them a little short too, but they both bloom above the foliage, so that part is good. Wouldn't get rid of them! They put on a nice long show.

Thanks for posting, Mike. On the Region 10 tour I saw a nice large clump of Rock Candy, that was just awesome.

It has been on my wish list Rolling my eyes.

I have had Strawberry Candy for about 6 years and I love it! The only down side is that it doesn't re-bloom. I have bought Elegant Candy, Wineberry Candy and Sun Gold Candy this year and last year I bought Licorice Candy which didn't bloom this year - I was warned that it takes a while to establish here in UK. I will post pics next year (hopefully!).

Hilary, I hope you have some to post also. It is hard waiting thru a season with no bloom.

I have a dl named Sugar Candy that I like really well, but it is a Wild's. I suspect there are others with Candy as a last name that are various hybridizes. I do love Custard Candy and I just added Huckleberry Candy this summer. I used to have Strawberry Candy but parted with it after several years to grow something else. Wineberry Candy did well for me also when I had that. I have Orchid Candy but it is too new to pass judgement yet. Seems ok though, the blooms are nice and it gets taller than some of the others.

I just accquired Awesome Candy, Andy Candy and Precious Candy this year. Precious Candy has a rebloom scape on it with 4 buds. One is ready to open today or tomorrow. I also have had Strawberry Candy for several years and i divided it this year. It has always bloomed its heart out for me.
Awesome Candy was also a rebloomer for me even though it was only a 2 fan start.

I still have Strawberry Candy, Custard Candy and Raspberry Candy. I did have Licorice Candy but it struggled here so I sent it south. I also had Andy Candy but it died.

Here in the north I grow Strawberry and Wineberry Candy; they are very hardy and good performers. This is my Wineberry Candy:

I would definitely like to add more varieties of this series; sounds like there are a lot more than I realized.

I have Precious Candy, and it is one of my favorite daylilies, here is a photo that I took of it where you can see the scape and the bloom:

Pat Stamile registered 37 daylilies with Candy in their name. The ones registered earlier in his career were hybridized in New York and others were hybridized later in Florida.

In total there are 208 cultivars registered with Candy anywhere in their name.
