Well, I thought I had settled into some routine addictions as stated above, and then along came dahlia celebration
week. Lord, let me live long enough to get all the cultivars I want!!!

I maxed out my space for dahlias this year. Yet I still ordered 18 more from Swan Island for next year. There goes another section of lawn!

Now, the way I figure it, if we get rid of our lawns, we can get rid of our lawn mowers, which means selling them and
having money for more plants! Not to mention what we'd save in gasoline, oil, servicing. Woohoo!

You ladies are a riot. This site is too enabling. My husband already thinks that plant people are crazy. He just shakes his head when I open yet another box of plants. I just tell him that it's a trade for postage or extra plants that I have, and so I'm not really buying a lot of new plants. In fact, I'm getting rid of a few. Whistling He just rolls his eyes. Hilarious! Rolling on the floor laughing

Just call us enablers anonymous, Deb! I'm busy planning 2 new beds in the front yard and eying a couple of spots in the back yard.
So many plants, so little space!

@Deebie - it's just so easy to get addicted! All it takes is one glorious photo of a rose or a dahlia and we know we have to have it. Then there are all the nice companies who add a bonus to a package of plants we ordered. Oops! There's a new addiction. Buy one new plant in lavender and then spot it online in yellow or pink or blue and we're hooked on that plant.

Winter can be totally stressing as we sit and dream as we while away the hours until we can get outside again so we order "just a few plants" but we all know that a few plants from five vendors and we'll spend lots of time planting in spring just as we're trying to convince all the muscles to do their jobs.

I have used a very convincing argument. I say "I am improving the property value". It will keep us in a very good nursing home vs living in poverty in our old age. Rolling on the floor laughing I explain that the house will sell for a much higher price on the market with well maintained land that surrounds the house.

I go into "cost and return of the cost" and if a football game or baseball game, or hockey is on all the better his eyes cross and he says "Carry on with your improvements". Hurray! I was and auditor for 20 yrs so I use some of the stuff that doctors do to you when they know if they say the right thing you will let them do whatever they are talking about.

I like long range planning and making wise investments. I wonder if that technique will work with my DH? I just tell him that at least I'm not a tool nut and remind him that I don't have a 40 ft. workshop to hide my stuff. He thinks that I don't know when he adds more stuff, but I'm much more observant than he is. nodding That's why I ignore him when he gives me flack. Lovey dubby
