Hi Jed. Welcome! to ATP.
Is this a shrub in your garden, or a wild plant?
Can you take a photo of the entire plant, and another of a close up of the leaves?

I'll get more photos soon! It's not in my yard, but grows elsewhere along a road here in Boise. It appears to have been planted long ago.

Good call Sherry, it does look like it could be a privet. We've never had our bloom, probably because we keep pruning it.

Wild elderberry?

The leaves and stems don't look right for an elderberry.

I also see that this plant can have a common name of Wild Olive.

Its grown as quite an unkempt hedge. 7-8 feet high, at least 20 feet long and 4-6 feet deep. I'm certain its not elderberry, though it is rather similar so that's not a bad guess. I do believe it IS a privet hedge that's been allowed to grow rather wild! I've only ever seen them quite well pruned. Please bear with me, I'll get more photos as soon as I can.

Please, when you take the photos can you remember to include photos of the leaves, stem, bark, etc. And step back to get a wide habitat view. All that will help.

We can rule out Elderberry and the Black Chokecherry.

I think it is a privet of some type, maybe the a variety of the Common Privet or possibly the California Privet, Shrug! Shrug! but it will be nice to have a positive ID for the plant. Thumbs up

I can't make out too much from the photo so this is just a wild guess.

It looks a bit like
Carolina Buckthorn - Frangula caroliniana
http://courses.missouristate.e...

However, if it's in Idaho, it doesn't seem likely unless it was planted by someone.
Shrug!

Ok
just to be clear
I wrote chokeberry (Aronia)
not chokecherry (Prunus)

I know using the common name gets confusing , but I often can not spell the botanical Smiling and spell check gets more confused than I .
