This is a slow increaser for me. I am trying to decide if I should keep it long term. The colors are bright and its a pretty flower but i think it's hard to match to and its a little gaudy. Trying to find just the right spot for it.

I know what you mean Sighing!
I don't mind slow increase, as I have a small garden, but some colors are just not that easy to match...

Most of my DL's are in the pink, lilac, lavender, purple range, but I have 3 peach colored DL's that just don't fit in Sad

There's only 2 things you can do: get rid of them or buy more like them! Rolling on the floor laughing

I think peach would look nice w the pink or lavender because it is still a pastel shade. Brighter oranges though would stick out too much. Just neutralize the area with some silvery gray foliage.

silvery gray foliage... that means non-DL plants, right? Confused

Yeah, well, about that... Whistling

I got a few fans of Carnival In Mexico last year and its one of my favorites. Yes i like gaudy and the only silver gray i have is in my hair. No room in the garden for noon blooming stuff except for back of the house where i like to have different greens sprinkled with the almighty daylily.
Well it bloomed great for me this year and reached its prescribed height. Cannot remember the bud count but this one will always have a place in my garden. Glad as heck i got it.
I really do not do much color matching but rather plug em in where i have room. If i think something will really clash then i dig something up and do some moving around so sometimes planting one new cultivar might take an hour. But that is just me.
Pat, i think its beautiful too. Thumbs up

I planted a double-fan of Carnival in Mexico this spring and it now has 4 fans so good increase in first year. Foliage very good quality. It did bloom but did not rebloom-- did not really expect it to year 1. Curious to see if it will rebloom here in the north in future years.
The color of the nice large blooms is fantastic. Really stands-out. I have it next to a daylily with neon-orange blooms with a dark orange eye (Vitamin C) and feel that is a pretty good combination. I can already see why this one is a Stout medal winner-- I love it!

CARNIVAL IN MEXICO - This 2012 Stout Medal winner has beautiful blooms, but it hasn't increased much at all since I got it three or four years ago -- probably because it's a dormant and some dormants will actually decrease and eventually disappear here in our hot, dry climate over time. But it's a beauty and I probably will keep it until it finally disappears for good one year.

Purchased Carnival in Mexico in 2013. This picture was taken 2014. It has bloomed the middle of June for 2014 and 2015 with an increase both years.

Very slow increase here. I'm losing patience.
Has improved with new location. Low bud count and poor branching continued in new location even with increased clump size. I eliminated it.

Big beautiful blooms here. A large flower and very showy. The clump has done really well also. This sure is a keeper in my garden.

I planted Carnival In Mexico on June 18th 2014, and it first bloomed on May 28th 2015, it had lovely blooms on it. Later in the year it developed a pretty severe case of rust. I really hated to see that, but will not be too quick to judge it, I am looking forward to seeing how it settles in this year. Hopefully, it will be more resistant to rust...hopefully!

Does Carnival in Mexico bloom well above the foliage? Some pictures in the database look like it might bloom just barely above the foliage, but maybe my depth perception is off.

@Mayo62, you are too funny! I totally understand about having non-daylily plants to break up the sea of daylilies Smiling I like your idea of 'buying more like them' Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

In my garden 'Carnival In Mexico' was a fairly tall daylily, and I remember (my memory is not too reliable sometimes) it holding the blooms well above the foliage.
