I got two identical plants popping up near a vernonia I acquired in a swap. I IDed the plants and they are Sweet Annie, a type of artemisia. I do like the scent, but I've heard others complain about it spreading everywhere in the garden and I thought I'd ask here if people think it's worth it. I already have purple perilla, agastache and touch-me-not impatiens that show up everywhere so I'm not very excited about anything else that might do this ad need to be ripped out. I'm inclined to play it safe and try to keep it out of my yard, does anyone have any great reasons for me to keep it?

Thanks

I had five volunteers this year. I was happy because I never got around to starting seeds this year. From those five plants I got enough flowers to make four wreathes. I didn't find them to be invasive. I guess it would depend on how you view it. I love finding volunteer agastache. Touch-me-nots, not so fond of but they are easy to pull out, as is the artemisia.

I grow sweet annie in a couple of my gardens , yes it will reseed probably more than you want.
I grow it for the sentimental value, my grandmother grew it , But I also like the smell .

I am able to keep it under control by cutting it to dry before the planrt goes to seed and leaving only one sprig to reseed , where I want it to grow.
Of course I am in the thought camp of anything not a weed is a good volunteer Smiling
There are a lot of re-seeders in my gardens Thumbs up

Thanks for the replies, I'm sure some seeds hit the ground so I will let it grow next year and just keep an eye on it.

I think my yard may be the ideal habitat for agastache, I get hundreds and hundreds of volunteers every year. I do love it though!
