Hard to see, round dark spot right side of basket.Every year these small birds move to their Winter condos. Cute, but hard to water. This picture is from this January.

Nice Larry, Can we get a wider view, looks like you have a greenhouse full of epis. Nice and healthy too. I'm getting plagued by leaf rot this fall. Will be spraying a fungicide this week.

How old is your epi? Mine is 1/8th the size, 2 years old, maybe 3 and started with one "leaf" cutting. How long must I wait for mine to become as beautiful as yours? I hear they like being pot bound? True or false?

Mike, I've had a couple rot. Wasn't sure if it was too much water or fertilizer. I miss treat all the same so why one or two develop rot and rest don't.

SGT, this plant is likely 3 or 4 years old, not sure. I have heard the story about root bound but I don't know. My opinion is too little soil or too many roots is bad. I try to balance it but I have got several Hugh Epis I suspect have no soil in pot. The only time I ever saw the question answered about re-potting large epis, they weren't large. If I can ever get clear how to up-load pictures I'll show a couple of my large plants.

I just found the Forum last night. I live in SF Bay Area and leave mine out year round. I have only covered them once for frost/freeze.

On the root bound question, I have some growing in 5 gal. black nursery pots with a mixture of equal parts soil and compost with perlite mixed in. They are doing great. I have my original three pots of (multiple) cuttings that a friend gave me that are in 1 gal. pots. They are still alive and growing, but not nearly as well. They have been in the pots for almost 10 years. I'm sure that there is virtually no soil left in the pots. They are not anywhere as vigorous as the ones in the larger pots. They bloom, but not anywhere near as much.

My only "problem" is that all the ones I have are noids. Oh, and scale is becoming a problem.

Here are a few of mine.

Those are all so pretty. Makes me wish for spring. I lost some really beautiful large epies when we had 24 inches of rain in 2 days this past fall. Most of mine are smaller and in 1 gallon pots or hanging baskets. I really don't have space for the larger ones.

@LarryC, it looks like you have some decent sized plants there, great growing!

@coboro, Wow, really gorgeous Epi's! Love, love, love the pink one in your first photo that you refer to as The Beast! Lovey dubby
Your plant in the 3rd photo reminds me a lot of Hybrid Epiphyllum (Epiphyllum 'Fruhlingsgold')

I don't currently grow Epiphyllum but seeing all these gorgeous photos on this forum has me thinking I need a few!

@coboro
If you don't know the cultivar names of your plants, you can add photos to the general database entry: Epiphyllum
