Greetings. I'm new to the forum. My wife and I live in Kansas City. We are an older couple and we moved to our current home about 3 years ago. There was not a single flower bed anywhere on the property, We now have a total of about 400 sq ft of iris beds. This past year we planted about 120 Schreiners plants. Our favorites are dual color and speckled but our very favorite is broken color like those from Brad Kasperek.

I don't know if people do much trading but we would love to do some trading next summer. You are welcome to look at our Have list to see if there are any you would like.

Blessings to all.

Hello John. Glad you could join this family of iris lovers. A lot of us do swap irises and some send 'for postage'. After all, irises do tend to increase rapidly sometimes and we need to find good homes for our lovely plants. I have mostly smaller irises but I am always adding to my garden. Stick around and help us get through the winters bloomless months.

Welcome! John! Sounds like you will fit in here just fine! You better start building some more beds, as by spring you will have a wish list as long as your arm like the rest of us. Be sure to share any pictures you have with us as well, but we have all winter to do that. Smiling

Thank you for your welcome. I'm glad to hear about the 'for postage' swapping. That's what we would like to do. Seems like a great way to get new iris.

Only 7 months to go!!

Seven months!!! I don't think I could make it that long, John. lol I still have a bit of rebloom to see me a few more weeks and then I may get my first bloom at the end of February. One of the reason I like the little guys is because they bloom so early. So.... maybe five months for me.

Hi Bonnie,

Just came in from my morning "walk about". It's 34 degrees here.

My wife wants to get some rebloomers in hopes of fall blooming. Not sure how much success we would have in KC. We still have a few daylilies that bloom but the garden already has that "winter" look already.

Welcome! John.

If you go to the ATP Iris database:
The Irises Database

Then select 'Search by characteristics'
http://garden.org/plants/group...

Scroll down the page a bit and you can select Rebloom by your zone. It will pull up all Iris of any kind that is indicated to have presented reblooms in that area. You can also narrow by type of Iris if you want, like Tall Bearded or Standard Dwarf.

Thanks for introducing yourself John. I can't add much to what everybody already said so well. This is a fun group, but beware... we're also a bunch of enablers. As Tom warned you, you'll be needing to enlarge your beds for next year. Yes, there is! I am already forming orders for next spring. One I can highly recommend is Superstition Iris Gardens for great rhizomes, selection, prices and all around service. smiles

Welcome! Welcome!

Nice to have a new addition to the group! I second Sherry and Bonnie that you should check out the different vendors. We all have our favorites, but by checking out new sites you will find a bigger variety of the types you especially like. Such as Kasperek. Different vendors carry different blooms of his. Schreiners carries my favorite - Bewilderbeast, but I got some of his others for less money at other places. Only picked up one of his this year, Kickapoo Kangaroo, and hope it blooms next spring!

Hi John,

Welcome to ATP. You'll find this ia a fun group. I too am looking forward to trading next summer. Have been lurking for a long time but started contributing in August. They are not kidding about enabling and your needing to plan on some new beds.
